The St. Myers Racing Team headed to Eldora Speedway on Saturday. Thirty-seven UMP Modifieds took to the track in four heat races. Rob Trent (50) took heat one, heat two went to David McWilliams (18). Doug lined up 6th in heat three and got a fantastic start passing three cars, but the yellow flag came out. On the restart, the hole was gone and Doug was forced to fall in line. Doug worked and worked on Randy Herron (45J) as the laps ran out coming home 5th, one spot short of the A- Main transfer. Mike Brecht (5A) won heat three and heat number four went to the 64 of Gary Richards.

The team was looking at their first B-main of the year. So with not a lot to lose, many changes were made to the car. Doug started the pole of his B-main and at the drop of the green it was obvious improvements had been made. Doug took the lead and never looked back.

More changes were made prior to the feature and Doug started from the 9th row. The 15 laps went by pretty quick with Brecht (5A) in the lead and Scotty Orr (88) trying to run him down. Doug was steadily picking his way through traffic and the extra changes were helping the car. With a very slick track, Orr put the slide job on Brecht with 3 laps to go and pulled away for the win. Doug had moved up into 10th as the checkered flag fell. Not the most exciting race of the year for Doug and the team, but the car improved all night. Experience was gained and things were learned.
