The St. Myers Racing Team loaded up Friday morning April 6th for the trip to Farmer City, Illinois to race in the rained out Illinois Short Track Nationals. The action at the speedway was fast and furious, as the threat of rain loomed overhead throughout the evening. A brief hot lap session was held, and the modifieds were lined up as the street stocks ran their rained out Nationals race.
After a couple early cautions, the race went green for many of the 50 laps, as Doug moved smooth and steady through the field from his 19th starting spot to finish in the fifth position. A good finish for the teams season opener! Congratulations to Shane Cottle on his $5000.00 win.
Doug also ran the regular Farmer City weekly show after the 50 lapper. With 51 very competitive modifieds on hand, making the feature was a big job. In the heat race, Doug got into another car and spun out while battling for position. Going to the tail with 3 laps to go, Doug made a great charge to finish in second.
After the heat, the team found they had bent a spindle. Making repairs and changes to the car for the feature kept the team very busy as the Farmer City show moves very fast.
Starting sixth in the 20 lap feature, Doug moved up and was running in the third spot when he was hit in turn one from behind. The contact bent the left rear wheel and caused the tire to start going down. The car became a handful as Doug did a great job and held on to finish 10th in the feature.
