It was back to Gas City I-69 Speedway today for the St.Myers Racing Team. Forty-two Modifieds were signed in for racing tonight. Five heat races were run with heats one through four going to Brandon Raef, Lee Hobbs, Brent Sutton, and Elvin Herschberger.

Doug lined up outside front row of the fifth and final heat. On the green, Doug took the lead from pole sitter RJ Rutledge and set a very fast pace. Scott Orr started third and quickly disposed of RJ settling into second. The 4S steadily pulled away from Orr the caution flew at lap 5. With the green out again Orr was determined to pass the 4S at any cost. Diving very hard into turn three with two to go Orr slid up from the bottom in front of Doug to take the lead. Orr held off Doug for the last lap and a quarter for the win. The C-Main went to Tom Geren and the B-Main to Oren Zook.

The feature looked like a who's who of Indiana Modified racing. With an inversion roll of six, all the fast cars were all together. Hamstra and Orr brought the field to the green flag with Hamstra taking the lead on the bottom of the track. Doug started in tenth and went to the bottom early, picking off some cars and moving up to the seventh spot. The handling went a way on the 4S soon after as it was easy to see the team had made the wrong call on the set up. Brent Sutton was leading the pack from third on back when the 4S got very sideways in one and two and cut the second corner off via the infield losing spots back to eleventh place. Meanwhile, Orr went to the high side just past half way, and blew by Hamstra to take over the top spot. The race ended with the top two in that order. Sutton hung on for third as Elvin Herschberger put on a three-wheel exhibition in the fourth spot followed by Tony Rowland in fifth. Doug done a good job of not tearing up the car, and drove well for the chassis being as far off as it was. Way to go Doug!
