The St.Myers Racing Team returned to Montpelier Raceway today. Thirty-three Modifieds signed in to race. Several Ohio drivers made the trip with no racing at Eldora today. Four heat races and two B-mains made up the night's racing. Heat race one was won by the 11E of Eakright followed by the 7H of Elvin Hershberger. Heat two saw the 6S of Sutton first to the checkers ahead of the 411 of Bill Roy.

Doug took the track for heat three, starting from the seventh spot. The green flew after a complete restart, The 40 of Terry Hull (started 8th) jumped to the outside and made a great charge to the front. Doug battled for position with the 21S, the 18 of Tracy Ellison, and the 33G of Davey Gantt. Hull was long gone by the time Doug worked past the trio and into second in the closing laps. Following Terry and Doug were the 21S and the 18. The fourth heat saw the 0 of Lee Hobbs win over the 18 of Jim Henry. B-mains were won by the 33G of Gantt and the 21 (driver unknown).

The feature was a very exciting 20 laps. The inversion draw put the fast cars all up front; Hobbs and Hull were the front row. Sutton and Eakright were in the second row. Row three was the 7H of Hershberger, and the 411 of Bill Roy. Doug started again from seventh. At the green Terry Hull jumped out front with Hobbs in hot pursuit. A war waged from third on back for the first few laps until the 11E and 7H spun in turn one. Doug had a very close call, just missing the 7H in what could have been a very nasty crash for both drivers. At the restart, it was Hull still on the point with Hobbs still second. Doug slowly worked past the 411 of Roy and the 11E of Eakright into the third spot. Reeling in Hobbs and making a dive to the low side, Doug turned up the heat on the 0 of Hobbs. A late caution brought the three together for what was soon to be a great finish. At the checkers, Hobbs was up to Terry's door and Doug was up to Hobbs' door as well. It was a very clean and exciting race to watch. Congratulations to Terry Hull and the 40 crew on their first win of 2001.
