More rain in the area had the St.Myers Racing Team looking for a place to race again Saturday. West and north was about the only options so it was off to Bunker Hill Speedway north of Kokomo. We found a lot less rain at their track, but obviously a lot less track preparations, as the track was not in very good shape for racing.

Seventeen modifieds lined up for two heat races. Heat one saw the 12 of Landis first to the checkers followed by the 22 of Greg Pitts. A good draw put Doug on the outside front row of heat two beside the 79D of DeMoss. DeMoss beat Doug to turn one and it was a roller coaster ride as the cars bounced and jumped their way around the 1/3-mile track. Dave Blackburn in the 36 tucked in behind Doug and the top three could do nothing but hang on as the race looked like an off road contest. DeMoss won the heat, Doug stayed second and Blackburn third.

The feature started straight up. The Doug started outside row number two. The green flag flew and turn one produced the first yellow flag. The 7H of Elvin Hershberger went around and managed to tear up the right front corner of his car. His evening was done. A complete restart saw DeMoss jump into the lead followed by Landis and Pitts. Doug settled in about fourth followed by Blackburn. Yellow flags flew regular as cars jumping all over the place produced spins and crashes. It was a hang on to your teeth race and Doug done a great job of not wrecking the 4S. DeMoss was leading going into turn three coming down to get the white flag. The move over flag was given the previous lap to a lapped car that did not to move over and the 22 of Pitts got up beside DeMoss and pinned him behind the lapped car. Pitts took the lead off of turn four coming to the white flag and DeMoss made a charge to regain the top spot. DeMoss fell just short as Pitts held on for the win. Third went to the 54 of Day, fourth to the 12 of Landis and fifth to the 36 of Blackburn. Doug managed to hang on to the sixth spot. The team was happy the car was still on one piece with minimal body damage.
