The St. Myers Racing Team headed back to the Gas City I-69 Speedway today. Doug and the crew looked forward to improving on the previous weeks fifth place finish. The first heat for the mods saw the 37 of J.D. Francis come from the tail to win over the 25 of Bub Patrick and the 7M of McVey. Heat number two was won by the 40 of Terry Hull over the 6S of Brent Sutton. Terry had to endure several cautions and a red flag for the flip of 22 Greg Pitts on the front chute. We hope Greg is okay and his car can be repaired.
Doug lined up fourth in the third and final heat race for the modifieds. At the green, outside pole sitter Dwayne Eakright in the 11E took the point and never looked back. Doug moved up to the third spot behind the 00 of Tony Rowland and that is where he stayed with a very tight racecar for the remainder of the race.
Upon returning to the pits, the crew found a problem with the rear end. Repairs were made just in time to put the car in line 5 minutes before the feature. Doug started from the ninth spot and held his own for the entire race moving up as far as seventh. The racing was close all the way through the field, as the track was a bit on the rough side as the drivers bounced and battled for position. An early spin by the 225 of Jesse Bitterling collected the 79 of Darrell Prine and both were done for the rest of the race. Doug battled with the 11E of Eakright, the 6J of Jeff Jones, and the 7H of Elvin Hershberger most of the feature. The 37 of J.D. Francis passed Doug late to take over the eighth place. The 00 of Rowland passed the 6S of Sutton late in the race and held on for the win. Sutton was second followed by the 25 of Bub Patrick. Terry Hull took the fourth followed by Eakright in the 11E rounding out the top five.
