Crystal Brook, South Australia

Gum bark Gum tree bark

Not a local native, this Eucalypt has been planted on a Crystal Brook roadside. The last layer of bark is beginning to split to uncover the next layer.

Ant on gum bark An ant is climbing up the tree trunk, but you will need to see the full sized photo to appreciate that; detail on the right.

Morning view Patterns in a wheat crop

You will need to view the larger image (by clicking on the photo) to see the pattern more clearly. This was taken shortly after sunrise; I had to wait quite a few minutes before the sun cleared a cloud bank.

Evening view 2 Beginning of the Flinders Ranges

Crystal Brook is sometimes called "Where the Flinders begin". It is apt. North of Crystal Brook the ranges have a different character than those to the south, even though they are, geologically, all part of the same formation.

Evening view 7 Rocky River valley

A detail from the photo on the left

The Rocky River is one of three main streams that pass close by Crystal Brook.

The lowering sunlight, the gum tree leaves on the left, the diagonal line of the grain shoot, all make for an interesting composition.

The platform is balanced by the flood lamp in this composition. The lighting is also an essential part of the photo.
