Nelson's debut in Mud Bowl 5 immediately set the tone for this hall of famer.  In a 48-20 loss to
the Raiders, Nelson lead his team in rushing yards with 86, and threw a touhdown late in the game.
In the Spring of 1999, He founded his own team (the Outlaws) and upset the league by defeating
the Raiders in Mud Bowl 8 by a score of 13-6.  With his team's first championship, Nelson lead all
players with 9 tackles, and caught 2 passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns; naming him the
games most valuable player.  An injury to his shoulder one year later threatened to end his career.
However,   his return to the game in Mud Bowl XII only symbolized the gritty determination of this
hall of famer.  Nelson leads all Mud Bowl players with 57 career tackles in 11 games. (tackles were not
recorded until Mud Bowl 6)
