Well here was the start of my planned budget RB-25DET engine swap. engine fit perfect with motor mounts from a z-31 fairlady Z with the RB-20 . |
Well as you can see here there was plenty of room between the pillars. ther was a slight clearence problem with that big intake manifold and the hood. The motor was as low as it could go. I never did get a chance to check the clearance. |
Here was the first setback. the turbo (T04S)_ and exhaust manifold combo hung too far off the motor and hit heavily against the left pillar and the only way to fix it was to replace the manifold to one that put the turbo on top. I was excited because this was the type of manifold i wanted anyways. They look much more racier ;> |
Here was teh last and final setback for the RB-25 swap.... this is the oil pan. Since i got this motor for all of 100.bucks from a junnkyard i was kinda curious what teh inside looked like. the topend looked brand new, but when i pulled the oil pan off this is what i found. if your wondering those are metal chips and pretty big ones at that;<. further teardown i found the #6 conrod bearing was completely gone, #5 and 6 pistons trashed #6 conrod twisted. to rebuild this engine would have cost over 3500. most in parts so it got scraped ;< |
Well my justification for this engine was teh rebuild cost of teh 25. i figured "Shit if teh 25 was gonna cost 3500 to rebuild i might as well send 4500 and buy teh RB26-DETT, transmission, driveshaft, R-200 diff, trust FMIC, and some other misc parts i cant remember. needless to say i prabably made the right choice but this was no longer a budget engine swap for sure |
