Gaited Horse Shows & Other Horse Events In Colorado |
Hello to all of you gaited folks. I'm Jennifer Nichols, and I'm currently serving as the United Mountain Horse (UMH) SW Region Representative. This organization helps to recognize all mountain horse breeds in the show ring. Many mountain horse folks own these wonderful horses for trail riding only, but I think that shows are fun because they help you to meet other gaited folks in your state, they help to promote our breed, and they help you to see what areas you might need to work on your horse (either on the ground or in the saddle). For us in Colorado, we don't have enough dedicated Mountain Horse folks to put on a good show. Luckily for us, the Tennessee Walking Horse Association of Colorado allows us to put in a number of UMH classes at each show. They also want to pull follks of all gaited breeds into their shows, so they include numerous Open Gaited Breed (OGB) classes as well. Please help to support our shows, and get other folks interested in our great gaited breeds! You'll have fun, and you'll probably learn something new too! |

Colorado West Trail Trials!! Saturday, September 19, 2009. Escalante Canyon, off Hwy 50, between Delta and Grand Junction. This is a really fun event put on by our saddle club, the Women's Surface Creek Saddle Club. It's an 8 mile trail ride, which has 10 or so judged obstacles on the way. Beautiful scenery with some fun things to do with your horse. Examples of obstacles: Bridges, slickers, pulling something, backing through things, sidepassing, and so on. It's wonderful scenery, and a great activity to gauge your training time with your horse. We'll have more info up in a week or two. Event check-in is from 9am-11am. We'll run our sweeps riders through after the last person leaves at 11am... once the sweeps riders come in, we tally the scores, and hand out ribbons & prizes. Fun for the whole family! We usually have some food/drink for folks, but horse water is on your own. If you'd like more info, please email or call me: 970-856-4760 or rjnichols@tds.net |
2009 NWHA Regional Show: The Colorado Celebration (An all gaited breed show!) The 2009 show will be held at the National Western Complex in Denver, CO. This facility has indoor arenas, air conditioning for horse & rider, indoor stalls, and much more! This will be a fabulous venue to show at, and the TWH-CO is hoping to bring lots of new riders in to show. The show will have breed classes for the Tennessee Walking Horse, Mountain horse (via UMH classes), and many classes designated as "Open Gaited Breed". If you're interested in attending, PLEASE let me know, since the TWH folks want to get an accurate headcount early on. For the UMH folks, we'll try to have paybacksfor the championship classes! EMAIL Jennifer for details. Also, please contact me if you'd like to sponsor a UMH class---we really could use the help!! Lets try to get more Mountain horse folks out there, and really get some interest in our breed!! Website for the show: www.thecoloradocelebration.com |
