Cheech & Chong met in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1970. They were both doing stand up comedy at Chong's brother's night club. Cheech was in Canada for the sake of evading the United States Draft Order. They began performing stand up acts as a duo which eventually lead them to the record industry. Lou Adler, a record producer, got Cheech & Chong started in the recording industry. In 1972 they were awarded a Grammy for their Bitchen comedy albums. Their first film was Up In Smoke in 1978, and it was one of Warner Bros. highest grossing films. Chong directed the majority of their movies. Cheech & Chong experienced bad blood between eachother in 1984 and decided to go their seperate ways. Cheech now featured as a regular on the police detective series Nash Bridges, and Chong still tokin' strong; appearing every so often in recent movies; rockin' hard and heavy ever still; and creating Paraphernalia. |

Richard (Cheech) Marin: Born in Los Angeles, California on July 13th, 1946. Cheech will be 57 this July, 2003. His father is a thirty year veteran of the LAPD. After High School Richard, {Cheech}, started college at California State University. Shortly after that he fled to Canada to avoid being drafted by the U.S. Government during the Vietnam War. While living in Vancouver, Canada Cheech met his unbeknownst partner in stoned comedy, Chong, at a night club doing stand up. Richard's nickmane Cheech, derrives from his love of a Chicano food known as Chicharron. The two of them then put together a comedy act that gained widespread popularity at an excelling rate. Soon after that they were onto record albums and movie deals. This all lasted from about 1970 till 1984 when they broke up their Stoner duo and moved on to individual comedic advancement opportunities.Cheech eventually went back to college and became a brother in the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He married Rikki Morley in 1975, and they adopted a daughter together. Their marriage lasted until 1984. Cheech then married Patti Heid that same year of 1984, which is also ironically the same year Cheech & Chong split up. Richard,{aka Cheech}, and Patti are still married, with two children, and reside in San Francisco's Seacliff neighborhood. Cheech is currently co-starring aside Don Johnson in a police detective series, Nash bridges, and has had this role since 1996. So instead of "Portraying" a Stoner, he'd rather portray a Pig. |
