| Result : Stonor won by 5 wickets | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The morning
drizzle died away just as play started when Stonor opened their season with
a home fixture against Hambleden, and play started on a firm but damp wicket. The visitors quickly lost their first wicket when Neil Brown had Francis snapped up by a sharp catch from Dan Fennell. Carrying his usual quota of early season niggles, the veteran Brown continued to bowl tightly, conceding only 8 runs in his 12 overs. Rosier and McDonough were the two visitors able to put up resistance, and did take advantage of any loose Stonor bowling, but overall the Stonor performance in the field was enough to restrict the opposition to an under par total of 95. In reply, Stonor got off to a bright enough start, and when the second wicket fell at 64 with plenty of time on the clock, the target was well in reach. Gary Oleinik had clearly been taking advantage of Stonor’s new net facilities as he began to find good early season form, and despite a brief flurry of wickets, he kept his game going to reach his 50 before himself falling to a tired shot off Shaun Mattingley’s bowling, only 8 runs short of the target. Mayo and Langley saw the home side through and Stonor clocked up their first win for the season. |
