Stop School Uniforms In Osceola County
Myth # 1: School uniforms will reduce gang violence
No, they won't.  National studies have proven that school uniforms have no impact on gang violence.  According to the study "The Effects of Student Uniforms on Attendance, Behavior Problems, Substance Abuse, and Academic Achievement" published in The Journal of Education Research (Volume 92, Number 1, Sept/Oct 1998) by Dr. David L. Brunsma and Kerry A. Rockquemore:

"Our findings indicate that student uniforms have no direct effect on substance abuse, behavioral problems, or attendance."

The study "Order in the Classroom: Violence Discipline, and Student Achievement" by Paul E. Barton and published by the Educational Testing Service, found:

"The existence of policies on school uniforms or gang colors proved unrelated to levels of delinquency."

Myth # 2: School uniforms will improve academic achievement
No, they won't.  The same Brunsma/Rockquemore study actually found that uniforms caused lower test scores:

"A negative effect of uniforms on student academic achievement was found"

Similarly, the Barton study found:

"The notions that school uniforms and zero tolerance for gangs would...improve student academic performance were not supported."
