The Bet | ||||||||||||||||

It seemed so easy. Be casual when I served him, be unimpressed by his fame, and then score a kiss before he left. How hard could it be, right? Well, if one your best friends wasn’t always daring you and upping the stakes every time you made a bet, it probably would be. So, now, I’m standing at the bar at Tabu, waiting for Amy to finish mixing my drink orders. I would have dared Lu to do the same thing with Howie, but he’s the boss and we do like our jobs. Besides, she’s the manager and already dating the man. | ||||||||||||||||

“You think you can do it?” She smirked at me as she twirled a straw around in a glass while she watched Amy sling drinks. “You think you can manage to pay up when I do?” I arched an eyebrow at her Lu just winked at me as I picked up my tray and sashayed towards the steps to the VIP area. I released the breath I had been holding once I got past the bodyguards, winking at Todd as I passed him. He smacked me on the ass, and I blew a kiss at him before heading to my tables. “Gin and tonic. Martini, dry. Bourbon and branch, Margarita on the rocks, and Jack and coke for the birthday boy. And I hope you’re having a wonderful birthday.” |

Green eyes stared at me, the head tilted slightly to the side. “How did you know?” I closed my eyes and breathed slowly before opening them again and staring at him. Leaning close to him over the table, I breathed out the words. “I’m psychic.” There was a pause, then another, before I grinned and winked at him. The four men with him laughed loudly, and he grinned before toasting me with his glass. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome, darlin’. Give me a yell when you need another one.” I winked at him again before picking up my tray and slinking over to another table. I didn’t have to worry about taking money in the VIP area; everyone up there had a tab they were running at the bar. The bosses wanted to make sure their important customers didn’t have to worry about carrying cash or credit cards and simply sent them a bill each month. I headed back down the stairs, nudging Todd with my hip before making my way downstairs. Dionne appeared beside me. “So?” I shrugged. “I got a laugh out of him.” “You’re supposed to be getting a kiss; preferably a kiss that’ll make you wet your panties.” She followed me over to the bar. I sighed. “Patience, my dear. All in good time.” We turned towards the end of the bar in time to catch Kel and Kel doing their thing. They stood in front of the drunk, bright, shiny faces covered in smiles. “Whaz yer name, girl?” “Kel.” He turned bleary eyes to the other woman. “And yerz?” “Kel.” When the two women moved side by side, his eyes widened. “Shit, I’ve had enough. I’m seein’ double.” Rico, one of the bouncers, easily manhandled the drunk to the door and into a waiting cab. Lu just laughed. “You guys are insane!” “Aw, c’mon, Lu. You know if they weren’t drunk it wouldn’t be as funny. No way in hell we look that much alike.” Kellye winked at the boss. Kelly added her two cents. “Besides, who else ya gonna get to be the Twin Teases?” She looked at her co-conspirator. “Bar dance!” The women motioned to the DJ, who cranked up some music. We were urged up onto the bar, dancing down and dirty as Tone Loc sang about doing the wild thing. This was a popular event at the bar, and each time we did it, one of the waitresses got to choose the song. Tonight, Lu chose the music, and we obliged. The tips were always good when we finished, bills pressed into our hands, our skirts, our tops as we were helped down. I looked up and caught a glimpse of a smiling face. I grinned as I straightened my skirt before I went back to the VIP area. On purpose, I made sure my last stop was his table. As I approached them, I wasn’t surprised by the applause and laughed as I shifted the tray to my hip. “Can I get you gentlemen a refill?” “Another round for the table.” A hundred-dollar-bill was placed on my tray. I looked into laughing brown eyes and arched an eyebrow. “The drinks go on your tab.” He just winked at me. “That was for the enjoyment of watching you dance.” I picked up the bill, folded it, and tucked it down in my cleavage. “Show happens every week. Stop back by and maybe we can get you a better seat.” He laughed, and I turned to catch the laughter on the birthday boy’s face. Before I knew it, I had $400 more being waved in my face. “And just what do you gentlemen intend to do with those?” My answer was three of the four bills being tucked in the spaghetti straps of my top right above the swell of my breast. The last bill was still in held in long fingers, as luminous green eyes searched for the right spot. “May I offer a suggestion?” I smiled at him, and he nodded. Stepping closer to him, I shifted to the left and slowly raised the hem of my short black skirt to reveal a garter on my upper right thigh holding up a stocking. He grinned slowly as he leaned forward and slid the bill beneath satin-covered elastic. I shuddered a bit as he stroked my skin before pulling away. I slid the skirt down and stepped away. “I’ll be right back with those drinks.” Pivoting, I sashayed back down to the bar. Lu smiled at me as she finished taking a quick inventory of the bar’s contents. “Get that kiss?” “Not yet, but I got a fabulous tip for the dance.” I waved the five hundred dollars at them before folding the bills and slipping them into the small pocket sewn into my skirt. The club was really hopping that night, keeping all of us busy. I saw Howie come in, and he did his usual walkthrough before disappearing into his office. Dionne and I snickered as we watched Lu head towards the door. **~~** She slipped into the office, closing the door softly behind her and locking it. Seeing him silhouetted by only the desk lamp always made her shiver, and she moved silently to stand behind him. “Hey, babe.” Lu wrapped her arms around him, leaning against his back and taking a deep breath of his scent. “Querida.” He rested his hands over hers, squeezing gently. “How is it tonight?” “Exceptional. I don’t know why, but we got a lot of big names here tonight. Tabs will be over the top, and the other customers are spending a lot, too. Lot of cabs, though.” He nodded, the soft curls brushing the top of her head. She smiled and hugged him even tighter. Howie watched as I moved up the stairs to take the latest round to the table and to continue to flirt. “What is G doing?” He tilted his head. “Trying to score a kiss from Lance before he leaves.” Howie turned around and wrapped his arms around Lu’s shoulders, leaning towards her. “And why is she trying to do that?” A knowing gleam appeared in his eyes. “’Cause I bet her she couldn’t.” “And if she wins?” “Use of my Mustang for the weekend and whatever nights off she wants for a month.” Lu brushed her fingers up and down his back, enjoying the sensuous feel of silk. “And if you win?” “She has to do a bar dance by herself to the music of my choice.” “You are a wicked, wicked girl.” The kiss she pressed against his mouth was wet and deep, and he moaned at the aggressiveness. When she pulled away, he drew in a deep gulp of air. “You love it when I’m wicked.” “I love you any way I can get you.” She gasped as he grabbed her ass and lifted her to the desk. He licked and sucked his way down her neck, nipping lightly at her collarbone before coming up the other side to take her mouth in another heart-stopping kiss. Howie slid his fingers beneath her skirt, slipping beneath her silk panties to brush against her. Lu moaned and arched her back as he delved into her. “God, yes, Howie.” The few moments they had before the pressures of the club whisked them away were important to them. He slid the panties off with a practiced ease as she quickly unzipped his pants and slipped her hand inside. He froze for a moment as he felt her fingers dance across his erection and then hissed as she brushed her thumb over the tip. She pushed the silk boxers far enough out of the way to free him then leaned back on the desk as he grabbed her hips and pulled her forward. Their groans echoed each other as he was enveloped in wet heat. It was deep and hard and fast and furious—their coupling merely taking the edge off the constant desire and slaking their thirst for the moment. He held her close to his chest, rubbing her back in gentle circles as they both breathed deeply. When he slipped free from her body, she carefully tucked him back into his boxers, rearranging his shirt and zipping up his pants. He carefully slid the panties back up her legs and brushed the linen skirt over her hips and thighs. Before she could move though, he took her face in his hands and pressed a loving kiss to her mouth. “Love you.” He breathed it across her lips when he released her. She winked at him as she stood, pressing her hand against his heart. “Love you, too.” After a gentle squeeze, Howie let her go. Lu turned back before she opened the door and blew him a kiss. With a nod, he watched her leave. **~~** Kelly leaned against the bar and waited for her order. As she did, she watched the office door open and Lu step out. When the other woman was close enough, she winked. “My, my, looking a little flushed there, boss. Need something to cool you down?” Lu arched an eyebrow. “Aren’t you supposed to be delivering drinks to someone?” “I’m going, I’m going. Tell Howie to take longer next time. I don’t think you got enough.” With a smirk and a hair toss, she took her tray and headed back into the crowd. **~~** It was getting close to 2 a.m., and I was beginning to wonder what I would have to do to get the young bass singer to lay one on me. I wasn’t expecting him to slay any dragons for me or sweep me off my feet on his white charger. I just wanted a kiss. As I made my way to their table, I caught the tale end of Joey’s conversation. “It’s a great movie and combines two of the best pastimes around—sex and baseball.” “You just like it ‘cause it’s got Susan Sarandon.” JC rolled his eyes at his friend. The other man laughed. “Hell, yeah. Besides that soliloquy Kevin gives about what he believes in is great.” “Long, slow, deep, wet kisses that last for three days.” I stood in front of them and smiled. “You like Bull Durham?” Chris looked at me over his glass. “Yep. Got a lot of good scenes in there.” I picked up their empties as I answered. “What’s your favorite?” Justin leaned forward, holding his beer bottle between two fingers. “Oh, the soliloquy, Susan’s reaction.” I tilted my head. “The garter belt scene.” The men all grinned, remembering that I was wearing a garter belt. I winked at them, and Joey laughed. “Gentlemen, we’ll be calling for last rounds soon. Can I get you anything else?” It was quiet for a moment until Chris spoke. “I bet you can’t unsnap her garter with one hand, Scoop.” I arched an eyebrow at him before turning to look at the blonde, who was blushing ever so slightly but looking interested. “And if I win?” The brunette shrugged. “I got $500 that says you can’t.” Lance nodded once. “You’re on.” Then he turned to me and grinned, and I could have sworn my legs turned to Jell-O when he flashed that incredible smile my way. “May I?” I nodded and set my tray on the table. He moved his chair back, giving me room to get close. I slid my skirt up and placed my foot on his chair between his legs. He looked down at the pointed tip of my stiletto pump then looked up at me and winked. I chuckled. “I believe you have a bet to win, Mr. Bass.” He slid his hand up the back of my calf and behind my knee to rest of the fastener beneath my thigh. With a flick of his thumb, he popped it open. Grinning, he slid his fingers over the top of my thigh and flicked open the top. Chris sighed and nodded as he acknowledged his loss. Then, before I could make a move, Lance was carefully refastening the belt to my stocking. It took just about everything I had not to pull him out of the chair, push him across the table, and act out another favorite scene from the movie. I stepped back after he finished, letting out a slow breath as I adjusted my skirt. “Can I get you guys anything else?” They shook their heads, gathering their things so they could leave. I headed down the stairs, and the five men and their bodyguards followed behind. I was standing at the bar when I felt a hand brush my arm. Turning, I saw Lance standing in front of me. “Thank you, for the birthday wish and helping me with the bet.” I winked at him. “You’re welcome. It was most definitely my pleasure.” He had turned to walk away when he hesitated and turned back. I only had a second before he pulled me close, dipped me, and then kissed me. It was everything Kevin described and then some. I felt myself be lifted back to my feet before he pulled away. My eyes stayed closed a moment longer before I opened them to see him smile at me. “Night.” He tucked his fingers into my waistband for a moment before he pulled away. “Night.” My voice was husky, and I was very thankful the bar was supporting me or I would have melted into the floor. Their entourage headed out the door, and I closed my eyes to savor the memory of that kiss. The girls crowded around me, inundating me with questions that I gladly answered. Lu stepped up and tossed me the keys to her ’66 Mustang convertible. “So, when did you want off?” “I’ll let you know.” I winked at her and tossed the keys back before grabbing my tray and starting the process of cleaning off tables. Having worked together so long, it didn’t take us any time to finish cleaning once the last of the customers exited with either a DD or into a taxi. I pulled my tip money out of my skirt and looked down in shock to find another $500 in my pocket. Lu just arched an eyebrow and smiled. We walked out to the parking lot as a group, the bouncers going with us for safety reasons. Before I climbed into my car, Lu stopped me with a hand on my arm. “So, I guess you’d like to keep working the VIP area?” I laughed and nodded, remembering my declaration last week that I hated working that part of the club. “As long as I get customers like him, you bet your ass I will.” We waved at each other as we each headed out our separate ways. |
