It Won't Go Away...

She thought he was good for her
He made a good impression
How could love at first site
Turn into a life-long love lesson?
She learned it wasn't true
The more you live the more you know
But she thought the pain you live through
Would eventually go

But it won't go away, no, it won't go away
If you never realize a mistake for it's own sake
You can think happy thoughts at the end of the day
But the truth lingers on, and it won't go away
He was the strong silent type
A man of few words
He believed a good wife
Was seen but not heard
They had an understood pact
Just by looking in her eyes
Brought a hush to her lips
No hint of compromise

It told her to...lock all the doors, don't look in the mirror
Turn the music up, to drown out all the tears
When the cryin's stopped, go on with your day
If you try to ignore it, it will go away
Lies that are told to cover up the shame
Don't do a thing, except cause more pain...

Then they grew old together
Hard feelings slowly died
Time took its toll
Along with the rage in his eyes

There was one more bruise left
From where they bumped in the hall
She thanked goodness for it too
Or she wouldn't feel him at all

And it won't go away, no it won't go away
A perpetual reminder of mistakes that were made
She tries to think happy thoughts at the end of the day
But the truth lingers on, and it won't go away
Yes, the turth lingers on and on and on...
And it won't go away...
