Verse 1   She came out of no where & befriended my mama
Right away she was family, and asked if we would wanna
Call her Aunt Ellie--so we did...

Aunt Ellie was around a lot when I was young
Wherever we would go with her was always more fun
Aunt Ellie was a voluptuous bachelorette
Wore her shorts short and smoked cigarettes

Chorus
Being with her made me feel  free
I gotta really good taste of the 70's
Fun followed Ellie like a cool summer breeze
Lip gloss, cut offs... & baby-doll tees

Verse 2
Back then we would drive to the nearest swimmin' hole
Ellie'd bring baby oil & of course her fishin' pole
Leave the car door open, wider than a crack
She just had to hear her new 8-track

Chorus   Cause being with her made me feel free
I gotta really good taste of the 70's
Fun followed Ellie like a cool summer breeze
Lip gloss, cut offs...& baby-doll tees

Bridge   There's nothin' like the feeling of the sun on young skin
Days were so much longer--a drive cross town was a vacation

Chorus   And being with her made me feel free
I gotta really good taste of the 70's
Fun followed Ellie, like a cool summer breeze
Lip gloss, cut offs... & baby-doll tees

Show Me the Way

Every night; she prepares a feast
Blinks back the tears, moves quietly
She's been taught it's her duty--it's the only thing to do
Guided by these thoughts, is how she makes it through
             All these goings on--you wouldn't know--it doesn't show...in those laughing eyes
Somethin' keeps her pressin' on--it isn't much--a gentle nudge...a little thorn in her side
Chorus   And she prays...take me away, take me away
Please give me a day when someone will love me for who I am
Show me the way, show me the way
           Help me to
trade what I've been given-- if you can
           Teach me how...to love myself...

Verse 2
Always tired; don't know quite why
There's no expression in her lover's eyes
She wants to be his happiness--her love fills up the room
Loves doing for him, he accentuates what she fails to do
All these goings on--have come on slow--but they're startin' to show..she's startin' to realize
What keeps her pressin' on--she can't yet touch--but it's oh so much more...than a miracle inside
Chorus   And she prays--take me away, take me away
Please give me a day when someone will love me for who I am
Show me the way, show me the way
           Help me to
take what I've been given--if you can
           Teach me how...to love myself...

Bridge
Only awkward silence on the way home
She can almost predict when he will explode

Chorus   And she prays--take me away, take me away
Please give me a day, when someone will love me for who I am
Show me the way, show me the way...Help me to
save what I've been given if you can
Teach me how... to love myself--love myself...love myself with grace

Next...
All the empty words-- as easily as they flow-- she's smart enough to know... not one of them is true
Her only concern--lies in the back--and this is the sound...they pretend to sleep through
