Escaflowne is the story Hitomi Kanzaki's sudden unexpected journey to the other-dimensional world of Gaea, a world where the Earth and the Moon can be seen in the sky. Hitomi's Fate would forever change when Van Fanel, a young King of ravaged kingdom, unintentionally brings his fight to her, first in the form of a deadly dragon, then back to Gaea into the middle of a war. After Van's kingdom is completely burned to the ground, a beam of Light triggered by Hitomi's necklace which she later finds contains the legendary power of Atlantis, and by Van's Hispano Gimaloth Escaflowne they are transported to Allen's outpost where Hitomi falls for the handsome Knight of the high skies. There they would continue the war against the Zaibach Empire ruled by Emperor Dornkirk. They meet more allies along the way including the cat-girl Merle, Princess Millerna, Dryden and many others while their Fates are twisted around love, hope and their own personal demons. Together they work together to overcome the Zaibach forces and bring peace to Gaea.
