History: Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock is the daughter of Dr. James Braddock -- once a denizen of Otherworld, an interdimensional realm where a being named Merlin dwelled. Dr. Braddock was sent to Earth to father the champion who would come to be known as Captain Britain. His first child, Jamie, seemingly did not inherit genes from his father that would result in superhuman powers. But Braddock's next children, the twins Brian and Elizabeth, did inherit such genes. Brain eventually became the costumed champion known as Captain Britain. Betsy developed psychic powers, which she used in service of the law-enforcement agency S.T.R.I.K.E., the British division of S.H.I.E.L.D. When Brian gave up the role of Captain Britain, his sister was persuaded to take up the mantle. But Betsy's career as Captain Britain came to a quick end when she battled two of her predecessor's foes, Vixen and Slaymaster. Slaymaster savagely beat Betsy until she was near death and blind.
Realizing her telepathic abilities compensated for her blindness, Betsy went to Switzerland to recuperate. There, she became prisoner of the otherdimensional creature Mojo, who took control of Betsy's will and gave her artificial eyes. Ultimately, she was rescued by the New Mutants and brought to Professor Charles Xavier's mansion to live. Unknown to all, the purpose of Betsy's new eyes was to monitor the movements of the X-Men, of which Betsy became a full-fledged member. Now known as Psylocke, she shared many adventures with the band of mutants. During an episode involving the Siege Perilous, Betsy was captured by the Mandarin, who transferred her essence into the Asian body of Hand assassin Kwannon. The legacy virus overcame Kwannon, likewise transferred into Betsy's body, and Psylocke was trapped in her new form forever.
Very recently, Psylocke, along with Rogue, Storm, Bishop, Thunderbird, Beast and Sage, left the rest of the team in search of the blind precog Destiny's diaries. Through a multitude of events, Psylocke found herself confronted with the mysterious Vargas, who claims to be the true homo sapien superior. In her attempt to protect Beast and Rogue, Psylocke sacrificed herself in a duel to the death with Vargas, leaving her remaining teammates to avenge her life.
