Outreach

The ministry of outreach and mission at St. Peter's Parish Church is to proclaim and demonstrate the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord within our own community and abroad giving truly of ourselves through God's grace.

Matthews Haven - This is an interim relief assistance program serving children in the New Kent community. We work with local agencies to ensure children have the basic necessities of daily life including food and clothing. We also provide energy and rental assistance, all types of baby items and equipment and school supplies for children. This program receives calls daily as well as offers several programs throughout the year, including a Winter Clothing Fair & Benefit, Power Pals Summer Camp, Back to School Fair in August, Pathfinding through Separation and Divorce for Adults and Children as well as Christmas sponsorship of families and foster children in New Kent. Volunteers assist with the individual programs and help organize the clothing closet.

Meals on Wheels - St. Peter's sponsors this community program and provides many of the volunteers that deliver food to shut-ins in New Kent County. The church administrative building is used as the hub to coordinate the delivery of meals. In 2004 we purchased a new refrigerator specifically for the storage of meals.

Clopton Scholarship - St. Peters administersthe Louise Miller Clopton and William Boyd Clopton Memorial Scholarship by providing four $1,000.00 scholarships to qualified graduating seniors of New Kent High School. Applications are accepted beginning in April. Scholarships are awarded in early June. Contact the New Kent High School Guidance Office for additional information.

Youth Mission - St. Peter's youth begin planning their summer mission trip in October to a location outside of Virginia to help a community in need. The youth are responsible for fund raising events with the support of St. Peter's parishioners.

Adult Mission - It is our goal to establish a mission trip to assist communities in need.

Habitat for Humanity - St. Peter's will participate in the New Kent program beginning in 2006. We are excited about providing financial and sweat labor support.

Christmas Shoe Boxes - St. Peter's parishioners fill shoeboxes in November to be received by children for Christmas.
