Music is a very important activity in Scoil Aonghusa. The choir (taught by Mrs. Ramsbottom) sings both unison and two part songs in both Irish and English. 2nd ,3rd and 4th classes who are taught by Mrs. McArdle sing in unison. The two groups participate in a Cór Fhéile every summer in Castledermot. The Cór Fhéile is a non competitive festival of Choirs, Bands and short sketches. It encourages songs and sketches in Irish. The school band consisting of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class also play at the Cór Fhéile. They play and march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. There are many instruments in the band. We play recorders, melodicas, keyboards, drums, triangles, shakers, tambourines and many other small percussion instruments. The band and the choirs also play and sing at Masses from time to time. |
