ABYSSINIAN--Abyssinia is an ancient name for Ethiopia.
ALPH--Short for Alpheus. A river in Greek mythology. Hercules turned the course of the river in order
to clean the Augean Stables in one day.
DULCIMER--A musical instrument made of strings of graduated length stretched over a sounding
board or box. It is played by striking each side of the strings with a hammer.
KUBLA KHAN--Grandson of Genghis Khan. He lived from 1216 to 1294 and founded the Mongol
dynasty that ruled China from 1260 to 1358.
MOUNT ABORA--Possible connection to Mount Amara mentioned in Book IV of John Milton's Paradise Lost. Coleridge was a great admirer of Milton.
