Born in 1961 in Denver, Colorado, USA. Singer/songwriter/guitarist, dropped out of college to pursue a career in music. A bold step for anyone, Jill struggled in obscurity for nigh on a decade before finally landing a redord deal with MCA. Her 1990 debut album 'Things Here Are Different', was produced by successfull producer Todd Rundgren, but escaped public attention. Jill was getting material together for a second album when she was dropped by MCA, and resumed her job as a photographer. By 1995 she was back with a hit eponymous comeback album the Lava/Atlantic label(s), aptly titled 'Jill Sobule'. It wielded two hit singles the monster hit 'I Kissed a Girl' and 'Supermodel', the latter was only added to the album after it had become a hit thanks to the Alicia Silverstone movie 'Clueless'. Her self titled second album was followed up by 1997's 'Happy Town' which was critically acclaimed by fans and critics alike and featured such famous guests as Steve Earl. After 'Happy Town' failed to produce another 'I Kissed a Girl', Jill was dropped from her second major label. She soon after re-entered music by joining Lloyd Cole's band as lead guitarist. She then signed to an independent label 'Beyond Music', on this label she released her next album 'Pink Pearl' in 2000. She has recently released a collection of previously released songs on an album called 'I Never Learned to Swim', which also featured two new tracks called 'Big Shoes' and 'Smoke Dreams'. Jill has recently recorded another albums worth of new songs for a future release. |
