Byron a.k.a. "You silk-wearin' buttercup!" Motto: "(sigh) Back to the trauma ward for me." (Updated in a moment of deciding to avoid actually working on Shadowrun on July 5, 2000. Well, at least it's something. Quiet, you.) |

Okay; you're probably wondering why, of all the possible RPG-like action-guy names Jesse could have picked, why he chose "Byron." To tell you the truth, I couldn't tell you for sure. (addendum: perhaps it's because, as of yet, Byron has not done anything particularly action-y, except for his ability to survive grievous injuries and to be back on the street in mere hours) As far as I remember, Byron was a joke name that backfired on me. We had basically finished creating Jesse's third character, and basically all he needed was a name. While the sheet was left behind at my house one day, I remembered a name from a Dave Barry book I was reading earlier that day: "Byron P. 'The Buffer' Buffington III." So, some insane neurons fired in my brain, prompting me to write this new, comedic name in the "Name" field of Jesse's new character. It took him a while to realize that I had done this, but when he did, he apparently decided that it was as good a name as any, and kept it. Much to my dismay, however, he dropped everything but the "Byron" part of the name. So there you go. (addendum #2: I believe Jesse, always the comedian [or joke-reviving comedian, in this case] completed the rest of this grandiose name on his sheet, thus making his character completely useless in the other players' eyes if they happen to see his character sheet now]) Poor Jesse. He always has such interesting character concepts (except, of course, his first one... *shudder*), and something terrible seems to follow him around. First, he had the maladjusted "Gorax Vensc" (which, spelled backwards, is "Csnev Xarog," Which explains everything), who messed with the wrong people (basically, "the wrong people," in this case, are "everyone") and died a horrible death. This new character seems to be more on the right track than Vensc was, which probably means he won't be eating quite as many bullets as Vensc. Sadly, he seems to have lived several lives already, and his (Byron's [also Jesse's]) mind might be beginning to suffer from the amount of trauma Byron (also Jesse) has sustained so far. There's not much else I can say about him at the moment, since he is such a new character. All I can really say is that he seems to enjoy silk and the color green. And, of course, stabbing people in the stomach with one of his two Sai. Such a nice guy. He has gotten along relatively well with the other Chinese-speaking addition to the "team", even though he's just an NPC. Actually, now that I think about it, the only reason they haven't attempted to kill each other yet is probably because he's an NPC. Basically, Byron is looked upon by Summet as, to quote Newman, a "useless pustule." I presume that Byron will get fed up -- more so, that is -- attempt to assassinate Summet, fail miserably, fall out a window, onto the jaws of some hideous beast of some kind, and be eventually hauled away by DocWagon, let out with a few thousand fewer nuyen, only to be returned to the mocking embrace of the rest of the "team" (more of a hesitant loose association, actually), at which point he begins planning again. The circle of life. |
