Dennis Horne was always a strange child -- much shorter and less athletic than other children, he was also absolutely obsessed with the color orange. He was mercilessly teased throughout his school years because all of his clothes were orange. His room was painted orange. He even preferred to read books that had orange covers, regardless of the content. When he was old enough to drive, he bought an ugly orange pickup.
When he finally hit puberty, Dennis got even stranger -- he developed mutant abilities that allowed him to fire blasts of radiation and heal the injured and sick. His physique improved a lot, though he remained really, really short. He still got teased for his height and his weird obsessions, but Dennis didn't care anymore. Overjoyed at his new superpowers, he donned a garish orange costume and began adventuring as the Orange Avenger, fighting a neverending battle for truth, justice, and -- umm -- orange things.
