Red Vengeance

Kevin Karlsson is the son of Avenger-X and the Krimson Kat, two heroes from the early 1980s. His parents let Kevin learn some martial arts -- he was a particularly talented swordsman -- but they were insistent that he would never become a crimefighter. They knew that being a superhero was a very dangerous profession, and they didn't want to lose their only son in a battle with any supervillain. And for the most part, Kevin agreed with them. He enjoyed his martial arts classes, but he wasn't interested in a crimfighting career.
A couple of years ago, a gang of armed gunmen ambushed the family in their home. They killed Kevin's parents, who had long retired from active crimebusting. Kevin hid in a closet and was able to escape the criminals' rampage, but he never forgave himself for his perceived cowardice. He became obsessed with tracking down the people who ordered his parents' deaths and bringing them to justice. He redoubled his martial arts training, pushing himself to become a true expert with his sword. Eventually, he decided he was ready to test his blade and his anger on the criminal populace of Paragon City and has since battled evil as Red Vengeance.
Frustrated by his lack of progress in tracking down his parents' killers, Kevin has gone in search of outside help. He has joined a Boston supergroup called P.A.T.R.I.O.T because they've promised to use their investigative know-how to help him find and punish his family's murderers.
