Warrior Review

Warrior Review

I have a Warrior so I thought I would do a little review on it.
Power:
I think that the Warrior has pretty decent power for a 16 year old design. I would like a little bit more snap to make wheelies a little bit easier.
Suspension:
I found that the Warrior suspension works only OK. I can bottom them on almost every jump. I have them cranked up almost all the way so they are stiff. LAck of long travel makes it well suited for small to medium jumps but no huge can-can jumps. It works extremely well for what it was made for. The trails.
Problems:
The biggest complaint I have about the Warrior is the crappy ass swingarm skidplate. I can bend that damn thing with my hands. The first thing I would do is replace it with a qualit skidplate like a DG Performace aluminum skid plate or something. The reverse gear is a pain also. I find that instead of using it, I just push that warrior around. You have to pull in the clutch, put it in neutral and pull back a lever. Sure not as bad as a 300ex, but it is sometimes hard to get it outta reverse. Many people complain about the airbox. The filter is kinda just set in and not really secured. I, personally, have never had the filter unseat. But I would recomend a Pro Design Pro Flow Kit to eliminate this problem. The handlebars are quite high but you get used to it. It's weird to ride a Honda after your used to a warrior.
Goodies:
The motor on this beast has a good amount of torque and is a decent dune hopper. The motor has to be bomb proof as it is a 2 valve low tech motor. It jumps ok and i found it was easy to do burn outs and slide around corners even withourt use of the clutch. The brakes on the machine are excellent. There is gobs of stopping power if you have them adjusted right. In the woods, i kept up to two fairly competent Banshee riders with almost no problems. This is a woods warrior. I found it most at home roaring down a tree trail wide open and hitting opstacles. It is just plain ass fun. A beginner to an expert rider can hop on and have some fun.
06/19/02 Update: I forgot to mention that the Warrior seems to have a problem with bolts wriggling loose. I was showing a welder where I wanted my skidplate to come to when i noticed the front motor mount bolt was gone!! Thats why it was vibrating so damn much...
