JULIAN
ANGEL
By
Nicky Baldrian
Jon Bon Jovi,
Richie Sambora, Autograph, Firehouse and Poison played a huge
part in shaping the melodic rock material penned by German based
mutli-instrumentalist JULIAN ANGEL, whom since the age of
fourteen has been hooked on hard rock, with Sambora playing a
major influential part on the artists guitar upbringing. 'I
started off playing lead guitar in mostly professional cover rock
bands' explains Mr.Angel who then went on to record a selection
of demo material, the result, Julian's debut album
'www.angel-rock.com'. Angel's intention is to spread his personal
vision of 80's style melodic rock into the 90's, ' Its basis is
AOR, but Iīve also spiced it up with some glam and sleaze
influences. Iīve included lots of encouraging "Youīre
gonna make it" lyrics, L.A. style guitar riffs, choirs and
guitar heroism. Some people call it cliché, but I call it the
key ingredients to the music that I personally love',.Julian is
also a visionary 'The fact that melodic hard rock is going to
re-establish itself' explains Julian 'Is what keeps me going,
especially in Germany, it's coming back really strong. Iīve
always kept this dream alive, and thatīs why I have written
songs like "Rock Survivor" and "Keep The Fire
Burninī', why should I write in an alternative style just
because it is currently popular? I only write one way and that's
from the heart of rock n' roll'
The task of reaching audiences can be a hard task, Julian has
decided to do all the promotional work himself with his own
company 'Nitro Entertainment', from here he plans to sign and
help promote acts in the future. People all over are saying that
AOR and melodic rock is dead, Julian looks at the angles in a
political way
'There is something awesome rumbling in the underground, but it
is kept dead by the media. It is never talked about in big
publications, radio stations only play some Bon Jovi or Journey
oldies. It is called too hard for the commercial radio listener
and too soft for the metalheads. I know that there are legions of
fans in between, but they are always ignored. I know many people
who love AOR and Melodic Rock, but theyīve never heard of all
the new bands and labels. Thereīs not enough promotion in my
opinion. When I go to a record store in Germany, I hardly find 10
% of all the new Melodic Rock releases. The rest of them are only
available via mailorder, and mailorder sales donīt have an
effect on the charts. There should be three or four
representative bands who get real big promotion and draw major
attention, so there will also follow an increasing interest in
AOR and Melodic Rock.
There are many people who fight for it, but this fight has to be
taken to the big stage now, so that everybody can take notice of
it.' Here here, finally the voices are speaking out!! The future
will see Julian trying to expand his name and his company, with
much more promotion and live dates are also a possibility
'Playing live can be a problem when you havenīt got the right
musicians to play with' says Julian, 'You know, Iīm talking
about long-haired rockers that share my vision. But first of all,
they have to share some time.If I find the time and the
right people to rock with, I will hit the road, even if itīs
just for a few shows. And, who knows, maybe Iīll be another AOR
God in Wigan, ( Iīm already an "Angel")' he laughs
'As far as I know, trends have always been made in the UK. So
donīt give up believing, and support Melodic Rock wherever itīs
possible. It has risen from the ashes and we can take it higher,
back to the top. And if the media donīt work, use your word of
mouth. I hope Iīll get the chance to see you all soon and thank
you for this personally. Cheers.'
