LARA
LARA is a great new Female AOR singer who has released two CDRs (available via www.mp3.com). Her songs will appeal a lot to the fans of that typical 80s Female Fronted AOR sound of acts like HEART, TANE CAIN and PAT BENATAR. Time for me to chat with her...
Can you please
first introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello everyone. My
name is Lara and I live in a small town in Delaware in the U.S. I
am married to fellow bandmate and musician, Bill and we have 2
daughters, Ashley and Jennifer, ages 5 years and 10 months. Our
passion is our children and our music.
I got two CDRs from you, can you tell me about the songs (and
it's style) and how people can get them?
Dance With Me is a
rock power ballad with that early 90s flavor and Tell Me
Why is a fast tempo tune written around a keyboard riff I
couldnt get out of my head. They are both available on a
compilation CD called Lara, Im Alright. At this time, the
only way you can purchase the CD is by visiting my site at
MP3.com. (http://www.mp3.com/lara)
Your music is very
80s influenced, I guess HEART and PAT BENATAR influenced you?
The 80s was
my era. You are right about that. My very first concert was Heart
in Philadelphia. Absolutely awesome. And I have every album Pat
Benatar put out. I used to go out in my parents garage with
a little cassette player, crank it up and sing at the top of my
lungs, trying to get that sound they are so well known for. It
amazed me that women could be so strong and capable but still so
very feminine at the same time. They were pioneers for todays
women because it was very much a mans world in the rock
scene at that time. I will forever be grateful to Ann and Nancy
Wilson, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar and many others for paving the
way for my musical outlet.
Do you think your kind of music (80s
AOR/Melodic rock) will ever come back and become as popular as it
was in The States back in the 80s?
I certainly hope so
and actually think it is beginning to find its way home
again. I am awaiting that next Bon Jovi CD that is due out this
month. It has that late 80s, early 90s flavor that we
melodic rock lovers yearn for. Its good stuff and you just
cant deny it. The artists of that era put effort into their
music. They wrote from the heart and every song (music and
lyrics) married with the awesome harmonic vocals and took us on a
journey. Everybody remembers those songs and where they were when
they heard them. I miss Journey, I wish Steve Perry would jump
back in his rightful spot and write and tour again. I could name
so many
. Styx, Whitesnake
.wow!!
What was the first
and the last album you bought?
If you want me to
be absolutely honest with you-eeek
I would have to say the
first was either John Denver or the Beach Boys and the last was
either the Monsters of Rock Ballad Compilation or Ricky Martin.
Yes, thats right folks!! I love ALL music BUT I love to
sing melodic rock. I write all kinds of music, as you will hear
if you purchase my CD. You have heard it before but music
is a universal language and I believe every artist has a
great story to tell with his style and type or genre.
Have you been
writing any new songs and if so tell us all about them and it's
style?
Yes, I am working on the title song off the CD now,
Im Alright. It is a powerful song written for
anyone going through a divorce or separation and how you you can
come out on top. I write from watching and listening to what is
around me. I have many more just waiting to be recorded. Finding
time to write, with two children is the tough part.
So
basically, what are the plans for the coming months, and when can
we expect an official full-length CD release?
When I first
started singing in local cover bands, I thought I was going to be
a famous rock star and live the life of luxury. A FEW ? years
later, you fit in the music around a family life and making a
living. Now, I have come to realize the possibilities through
wonderful things like the Internet that maybe some dreams are
possible. My girls come first but if an opportunity came a
knocking, I would probably answer. I want to keep writing and am
willing to look at possibly writing for other artists. I would
love to perform again for audiences and that could be in the near
future. I do not want to rule out any possibility. I have started
receiving some label interest so we will see what happens. I
would love to get feedback from your readers as to what they
think. Please check out the CD and let me know what you think.
That is important to me.
Thanks so much to Gabor and Strutter for showing interest and giving me this opportunity to talk to all of you. He has a great thing going here and it helps us, not-so-famous artists get heard. Maybe magazines and sites like this will help get back that music we all love so much!!! Best wishes to you all!!
