PUSH
By Nicky Baldrian

PUSH were frormed in 1994 by vocalist Martie Peters and guitarist Martin DaRic "We were so fed up with the rock scene" continues Martie "that we felt something had to done... We recorded and paid the first album ourselves and things sort of took off from there.

Kasper Sogreen joined the band in time to play on the album (Maximum Entertainment). We had all been in local hard rock bands before so the direction in which we wanted to go was clear from the start."

The band draw their inspirations and base their lyrics on a mix of "fiction, something I see on TV, something the guys in the band do, or something I experience myself".The bands main goal is to continue "putting smiles on people's faces", "We're not trying to save the world" says Martie "But I think that our lyrics have to be something people can relate to most people can relate to broken love or getting legless now and then" continues Martie with a laugh.

The song "Changes" from the bands new album "On The Run" is of a very personal nature "Changes has some of the most personal lyrics I have written so far in my career... judge for yourself" adds Martie.

Indeed the new album shows just what Push are all about "It's our third album and in my humble opinion our very best! We spent most of last year recording it" continues Martie.

When the band took a break from touring and promoting their last album (Shaken, Not Stirred) and started to think about the next album they eventually hit a good combination of rocking tracks, mid tempo tracks and ballads.

"It is also a tradition that we include a cover on our albums and this time we have transformed the Bob Dylan track "Jokerman" into a hard rocker!"

Push were due to tour the UK this year but had to cancel their tour because their promoter pulled out in the last minute! "However" says Martie "we will play the UK this year and right now I am hoping for a 4-5 show UK Tour in August. We are also looking for a support slot on a bigger european tour later in 2000!"

Push toured their arses off with the last album, they played to a sold out crowd in Copenhagen last year with Pretty Maids "It was fantastic the whole tour was a good experience. We played with Pink Cream69 in '97 in Antwerp and had a great night there as well. Opening for DIO in '98 was great too! And of course the shows we played on our own on the Shaken Tour."

After their debut album was released in 1997 the bands manager talked to some people in Sweden who recommended Z Records "and they were interested when they realised that our debut did rather good in the UK as an import disc. Never Again (first track on Shaken, Not Stirred) was the track that did it for us, Mark at Z really loved that track and signed us after humming it in his car on his way to the office" laughs Martie.

The band have also been warming up with Japanese rock fans "The first one was never released in Japan and Shaken came out on a small label called Dolphin Entertainment. But we have been receiving some fan mail from out there so that's nice. BURRN! gave us a fine review which warmed us but it didn't do too well! Now we have signed with Marquee - Avalon for On The Run and I have much higher expectations this time around!"

Push often get compared to White Lion but aren't fed up with the constant press comparisments "I am flattered being compared to some of my heroes! My big hero is Rod Stewart. I have been a huge fan since I was 8 years old but obviously Mike Tramp and White Lion in particularly has inspired me a lot. Mike is now a good friend of mine and I did some backing vocals on his Remembering White Lion album last year. Another highlight in my career of course is being in the studio with one of my heroes! Donnie Vie and Chip 'Z Nuff have written some of the best melodies I have ever listened to, so that comparison is fine by me too!!"

Martie originally wanted to be a footballer but then came the beer and the women "so I had to forget about that. I realised that playing in a band was a REALLY good way to get laid so I started playing guitar and singing when I was 16 and here I am today" he says with satisfaction.

The band are looking forward to touring "I hope we will meet when we come and play live. We are looking forward to playing in the UK as we have never done that before. I can guarantee that we will do our best to kick serious ass. And I love GUINESS so it can't go that wrong..."

Push have just released their excellent new album "On The Run" check it out and don't forget to catch them on tour in August.
