$KYHIGH

By Nicky Baldrian

When I first heard Riverside based hard rockers $kyhigh's debut album "Tales From The Crib", I was amazed at how good the production and the songs were. the album also got rave reviews in respected UK rock magazine Hard Roxx as well as nice reviews praising the bands efforts throught Europe. The bands music was was very American and reminded me of bands like Nelson, Warrant, Firehouse, Tyketto, Damn Yankees, Jaded Heart, Innuendo and Danger Danger amongst others

Due to a recent debate on the internet, it was advised that I track the band down and find out what's been happening since the release of that album a couple of years ago. So I contacted main man Rich and it seems like they have more fans they thought!!!

$kyhigh was founded in 1995, "The core of the band (myself, Steve-singer, and Frank-drummer) has never changed. I really got into music around the time Van Halen put out 5150. I was playing drums at the time but once I heard that CD, everything changed for me. I started teaching myself guitar and piano and the rest is history." explains Rich.

The band are inspired by good melodies "I'm a lead guitarist, but I don't think you need to play a million miles an hour in order to get your point across on guitar. Great songs are cool too. That's what $kyhigh strives for when writing. We could all show off our skills but what's the sense? The Beatles had a ton of hits with simple three chord progressions and it seemed to work for them." he adds.

The songs on "Tales From The Crib" are now available through Perris records, Rich continues "Well,we're very proud of the first album. We did the entire thing ourselves. We didn't fold under the pressure of the alternative movement. Now it seems like rock'n'roll is making a comeback and we're ready to give it a shot. The first CD was a great learning experience and it's cool to know that people are still into it and still asking for it!" he pauses for a second before continuing "The new CD doesn't have a title yet. We are recording it ourselves with equipment that we bought. We're doing everything except the final mastering. It's pretty much the same style as the first CD but with more of an updated sound...alot more melodies that will have you humming for hours. Of course, there will be lots of guitar...probably about 10 tracks or so. We're taking our time on it because we own
the equipment so we want to make sure everything is right. We're hoping for a summer release."

For the future $kyhigh are just content to play music "If we never become millionaires, that's fine. We dig that people like our stuff, that's all we can ask for. If something big happens, then great. But I've been playing for over 10 years now and I'm not gonna sit around and pray for a major record deal. This business is all about who you know. There are thousands of awesome bands out there that nobody will ever hear about.

I think we've done alot in the past couple of years for a relatively unknown band that's had no help. We've got our second CD in the works, financed totally by us"

$kyhigh have also had their fair share of major tours "we've played with bands like Cinderella, Sebastian Bach, Slaughter, Warrant, Living Colour and Enuff Z'nuff. We have another show with Warrant on April 27,2000 at the Station http://www.thestationrocks.com) in West Warwick RI. Things are good...but that doesn't mean we're just sitting around doing nothing. We're constantly trying to contact record labels, radio...anybody that might be able to get our music to the masses." he pauses again "Actually, the shows we've done over the last year have been pretty cool. All the bands have been nice. I can't say enough good things about Warrant, they've treated us really good the two or three times we've done shows with them.

I just want to thank all our fans out there...to see people singing our songs is the greatest feeling in the world. Visit our site at: http://www.oocities.org/skyhighrox , we're starting to re-do it. We won't let you down...the new CD ROCKS!"

$kyhigh as mentioned will release their second untitled album in the Summertime. Watch this space as this band rock and defintley show all the ingredients for a successful future. We wish the band thew best of luck.
