TIMOTHY LEWIS
By
Nicky Baldrian
Currently creating a stir, with yours truly is a gentleman named
Timothy Lewis. His music sounds very professional to me, this guy
is from Orlando and has recorded many many fine songs that lovers
of pure hard rock and AOR will simply adore, until now Timothy
has been gaining a following strictly on a local front, but now
it's time to move on to the next level and turn things around so
that this guy gets to be heard, he deserves a break as Timothy's
voice is very very similar to HUGO, STEVE PERRY, BRYAN ADAMS,
KEVIN CHALFANT and ROD STEWART and is exactly what fans of this
genre are looking for.And to top it all, one of Tim's albums that
I have includes a triumphant cover of JOURNEY'S "Feeling
That Way" which cleverly mixes in the beginning intro of the
other JOURNEY favourite "Anytime", you simply have to
hear this guys voice and
music it's incrediable.
Tim has been playing music for 18 years, "It started for me
when I was driving someplace and a song came on the radio! That
song was Styx's BABE " explains Tim, He then went and found
the album, Tim continues "It felt that I sounded a lot like
them when I sang with it. We had an old upright piano and I sat
there trying to find each note until I could play all the songs.
I listened to them over and over!", unlike most musicans Tim
is self taught " I never had any lessons, I just loved the
way it made me feel. Their voices! words, chorus's, the
music...It just moved me." But STYX were not the only band
that took a shine to Mr.Lewis, " Then I heard Journey, and I
could not believe it! I thought his voice was like an instrument!
from then on I could feel it burning inside me, like a flame had
been lit. I can really say that they inspired me.". Tim grew
up in Minnesota and when he left high
school he joined a band playing mostly covers travelling to
Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Canada " At this time I really
started to write alot," explains Tim "thinking that I
could write songs as good as the ones on the radio.", He
then decided to leave the band and spent a few years drifting ,
"it became difficult in the band as each musician wanted to
try different styles of music", Tim continues "I
decided to leave the band and pursue my dream on my own."
He then met up with a gentleman called Tony Languzzi who urged
Tim to get his songs developed and out in to the public's faces
" I told him I was a musician and he said "thats what
he always wanted to do." I played him a couple of songs that
Id been working on, and He said to me "what are you doing
about your music" "you need to get it out there, people
love those kind of songs" SO he kind of kicked me in the but
to get moving and get it out there!, After meeting Tony I made an
appointment to record and this CD is the result of those
sessions.Tony sings and plays some guitar."
Timothy and Tony connected when
the duo started talking about song writing "I told him
" you have think in terms of a song, you have to be
listening to the things that go on around you, you have to let
yourself be affected by what happens in your life, and the things
you see as an injustice or a triumph! and take those feelings and
just let them go. If you allow yourself to feel, Its not that
hard to write." Timothy pauses for a second, "I think
today we have become so "desensitized" in whats
happening in our world and we have kind of closed ourselves off
and shut out the world. We live behind our gated communities dont
know our neighbors and dont help those in need, sometimes even
our own families. We've
trained ourselves NOT TO FEEL, and thats sad! In talking with
Tony about all this Nicky I was kind of administering to myself
too.The songs on this cd are the things that are most important
to me "Haley" is about my daughter, "I
surrender" is about my wife Lana and "Given so
much" is about my family and friends that have given up
things to see me succeed, etc. A note my brother who plays keys in
our band discoverd his love of music when he heard me learning
and playing the song "Faithfully" he then started to
teach himself the keys and we share our love of music together!
(he sings the Greg Rollie part on Feelin that way)"
But it was Lana Timothy's wife who got things rolling, "This
"TRAIN" started when my wife brought a cd of a song I
had just recorded to her xmas party, The song was
"Haley"
The dj agreed to play it.after hearing the song the dj (Annie
Sommers 98.9)who was a dj at a local radio radio station went on
a frantic search to find my wife Lana, she told her "I have
to play this on the air" "our listeners will love
it" and indeed they have we have been bombarded with e-mails
for the cd. Its also now available locally. Also it has now
spread to another station 104.1 where "feelin that way"
was voted song of the day last Thursday. And then of course the
mp3 site." conclude Timothy proudly.
The result is a collection of awesome AOR and hard rock songs
