The Gypsy's Pages
Idaho
This is a stretch of the Selway River a bit east of Kamiah, Idaho (pronounced cam-ee-eye).  It is a beautiful natural area in the Nez Perce National Forest.  When I was there in October, there were very few other visitors, so it was very nice and quiet.
This area is part of the Hells Canyon Recreation Area, which actually is the deepest canyon in the US.  Although I had thought the Grand Canyon was the deepest, it is only 6250 feet deep at its deepest compared to Hell’s Canyon’s 8030 feet.  Unfortunately the deeper parts of Hell’s Canyon aren’t very easy to view, as there are no access roads up to those areas that I could find in the short time I was there.
This is a view of the Sawtooth Mtns as seen across Red Fish Lake.  While camping there in mid-October the temps got down to around 19º at night, but it wasn’t bad at all sleeping in my trailer with the propane heater going.  This area was very nice this late in the year, but I have a feeling that it gets pretty crowded during the summer with all the boaters, fishers, and such.
