EXPOSING YOU TO MORE NEW MUSIC

ARE THEY REALLY FLACID?

Stubble Interview of Limp by Ken Zebbyn

Ken: Is the band name based on a Latin phrase as in your press kit?

Phil: What? Latin I haven’t seen the press kit.

Serge: We fully meant the flaccid part of it.

Phil: He’s being funny (Mark @ Honest Don’s), Mark spices up all that stuff. He makes us look 20 times more interesting then we probably are.

Ken: So you started out in The Dancehall Crashers Phil ?

Serge: He did not come out of the DHC they borrowed him for about a year and a half.

Phil: The guitarist in DHC I replaced was our 1st drummer kind of weird.

Serge: A natural progression.

Ken: How did you hook up with Doug from Screw 32 ?

Phil: Actually Billy left the band and so we needed someone and 2 weeks prior Screw 32 had broken up and we have known them for years. I knew Doug way before that anyway, years ago. So he was like the first thought in everyone’s head …ooo available guitarist.

Serge: Available good guitarist that we all know.

Ken: Who came up with the LP title Pop and Disorderly?

Phil: Serge was on the toilet one day, you know, brainstorming in his office.

Serge: Thinking about the band where I think about the band..on the toilet.

Phil: and he came out ..how about this. And we all laughed, it was pretty simple but it was funny.

Ken: Your press kit also said you got your first big break playing on the Warped Tour. (Doug joins us)

Phil: It was the local stage in San Francisco that’s not that big a deal, a lot of bands do that.

Serge: We sounded like shit so I hope that wasn’t our big break.

Phil: I don’t think we have had a big break yet. It’s all little pieces.

Serge: Little baby steps.

Doug: Touring with Less Than Jake has kind of been a big break.

Phil: We are playing sold out houses almost every night except this one huge college. It was set up when Chris bought our record in his store cause he heard us on a comp and he liked us so he got in touch with our booking agent and here we are. It’s really cool being on the tour with them.

Doug: All the bands have been great (that we have toured with) No Use For A Name, Lagwagon, Bouncing Souls, The Pietasters, this Less Than Jake tour though has been the most compatible as in the kids that are into our kind of music. But all the tours have been fun and all the bands have been great.

Serge: We have come off each tour with a great sense of comradory, which is a great thing.

Ken: What prompted you to start the band?

Phil: I think it was from going to shows and watching as a kid going God I would love to be a part of this. Because it’s such a good feeling, like everyone wants to be part of a great thing. If you see a great band at a great show it makes you want to be part of it. And it became a dream, I think it was all of our dreams at one point.

Ken: How do you write songs ?

Phil: Some are together some separate we will bring songs to the table, songs seem to be accidents.

Serge: Each one has a different start to a story.

Doug: Its like freeing the statue from the stone.

Ken: Any good road stories ?

Doug: We were on the road with Lagwagon and we ended up staying in a hotel that had a Porno convention the place was full of porn stars. We did not realize it that night but next day we met a bunch of them. Morgan Fairlane, Chole Nicole, Christy Lake, we also met this kid Scott and he’s a porn star but he was the kid in Christmas Story that got his tounge stuck to a pole.

Phil: But he’s still the same size he’s 4 foot 3”

Doug: I think in his last porno on the cover it said, “look what Scotty gets his tongue stuck to this time” hopefully not another pole.

Serge: It’s a different kind of Christmas this year. Then there was this time they left me stranded in a gas station in Ohio with no socks on in the middle of the night. I had just put my shoes on to run in and beef. I had shorts and a hat and my T-shirt on.

Doug: It was on a turnpike so it took us a while to turn around it took about 40 minutes to get back there.

Serge: It was 3 in the morning and there was this one guy going “that vans left, those boys are gone”

Doug: What happened was Serge was in the loft asleep, and I was in the sub loft sleeping. Johnny & Phil were up front and we pulled into the gas station, and they jumped out of the van doing their thing. Serge wakes me and says I’m going to go to McDonalds and get some food and I fall back asleep and they came back in the van and its so dark on the loft so no one but me knew he had left the van. We hit the road and 10 minutes into it Johnny says “I don’t see Serge on the loft”. Then it was like turn around.

Serge: I was really pissed but now I think it’s a real funny story. At the time I was like “You Guys Forgot Me”

Ken: What Zines do you like ?

Doug: Stubble would be right on top of my list.

Phil: Naughty Girl Fanzine is fun.

Doug: Absolutely Zippo and Mystic Optimizer.

Ken: Final comments
