Course Description
During our first several weeks we will learn key placement and the proper fingering technique. We will also spend a lot of time in practice drills. The early focus will be on good typing habits (a focus on speed will come later.)

As we progress on the keyboard, we will examine the basics of computers - how to properly use programs, find files, etc.  The word processor will be used for practice drills as well as for creating and formatting documents such as letters, memoranda, resume, term papers, and other business documents.  Emphasis will be placed heavily on technique, accuracy, speed improvements over time, and proofreading/editing skills.

During the second quarter we will overlap the desktop publishing unit with the study of business documents in the word processing unit, creating publications that correspond with typed business documents. Minor graphics manipulation will also be discussed.  Desktop publishing will also be used to develop web pages. Source codes for web pages will be exited using notepad and then uploaded to the internet with a FTP program.

Toward the end of the year we will take a look at spreadsheets and a quick overview of databases.  Students will also learn proper e-mail etiquette and communications via the Internet
