The idea for Students Helping Others was conceived during the second semester of the 1999-2000 school year. It began in the fall of September 2000 and will continue as long as students are willing to work for the benefit of others.

This is a student-run organization that raises money and gives the profits to a charity voted on by the students. At the end of each year, the members of SHO vote on what charity will receive the club's profits.

During the 2001-2002 year, Students Helping Others is aiming to raise more money than they did last year. They are going to donate the money to the St. Jude's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

During the 2000-2001 year, SHO worked hard to raise almost $600 during their first year and donated the money to help the fight against AIDS in Africa. Before even the world leaders held a meeting to discuss this issue, we were doing our small part to ease the suffering in Africa. Our club sent ten children from AIDS afflicted families back to school after they were forced to drop out. These children could not afford to attend school but with our work, we have sent them back to school where they can be educated. We also helped the mothers of five families where the fathers have died from AIDS start a business to generate income. Often, the children end up on the street but because of our efforts, we have helped prevent that for five families.
