Campaign To Protect Students Privacy
A national campaign to get the Congress to amend the No Child Left Behind Act to protect students privacy from military recruiters.
Background: The "No Child Left Behind" Act gives military recruiters access to students personal contact information, such as name, home phone & address. If school districts do not comply, they may be denied federal funding. From the act (click here to view the whole act, adobe required):
(a) Policy.--(1) Access to student recruiting information.-Notwithstanding section 444(a)(5)(B) of the General Education Provisions Act and except as provided in paragraph (2), each local educational agency receiving assistance under this Act shall provide, on a request made by military recruiters or an institution of higher education, access to secondary school students names, addresses, and telephone listings."
