Chapter 1: Stolen Hearts

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish I'll be your fantasy

Their gazes locked. He smiled a little, regarded her with that blazing intensity in his eyes, as if he could see through her, sear her heart with his love, leave his imprints on her body, indelible, forever, never to be forgotten.

I'll be your hope I'll be your love
Be everything that you need.

She gazed at him, her lips curled into a small smile. She liked him when he regarded her this way, it was private, intimate, sensuous. The sparkle in her eyes matched the wild, untamed feelings rising within her. How could he have made her feel this way? How could she want him so? But she did. He was part of her. He completed her.

I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do

He closed the distance between them, gathered her into his arms, laid his hand on the small of her back, brought her close. Tenderly she brushed away a lock of his unruly hair, pressed a feather-light kiss against his forehead, and caressed his cheek with her palm. His dark eyes grew even darker, and she could feel desire radiate through his body. He tightened his hold upon her, moaned her name softly, before crushing her to him, and bent his head to kiss her.

I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

The kiss went on and on. She was lost in the wondrous sensations that he created. Her vulnerability faded and she wound her arms around his neck, responded with the passion that he always seemed to arouse in her without much effort... Him... it was always him... it couldn’t be anybody else. She loved him. She could do anything for him. She wanted to be with him always. She wished that he promised her forever the way his kisses promised nights of sensuous love.

Oh can't you see it baby?
You don't have to close your eyes
'Cause it's standing right here before you
All that you need will surely come

He was all she needed. He represented all her unfulfilled dreams, all her secret yearnings, all her wildest fantasies writ large. He was everything she hoped to have. His lips blazed a path of sensuality along her slender neck, along the smooth skin of her naked shoulder, his hand expertly eased off the rest of her clothing, caressed her body as would a protective lover, tenderly, gently, completely.

I'll be your dream I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply do

He wanted her. He wanted her with a raging, inexplicable passion that he’d long ago given up trying to decipher. She was all that he could think of. With her, he could be himself, he could be anything he wanted and she would still accept him whole-heartedly. She fired his imagination, she excited his predatory instincts, she aroused in him an intense need to protect, to love, to please, to possess...

I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

They came together in the heat of passion. Together they washed away melancholia, wistfulness, pain, heartache, as they indulged in the simple pleasure of being in tune with one another. She knew such bliss did not last, she could not hope for him to stay by her side forever, stolen moments like this were rare, but all she wanted was a small part of him to remember her, to remember all that they had shared, come what may. Little did she realise that while she had promised him her love, she had also unknowingly stolen his heart.

Chapter 2: Anguish

He was in pain. He was raging mad. He couldn’t believe she could have done it. How could she? He had never been so angry in his entire life. It seemed that only she could arouse such extreme emotions in him. The turbulent feelings churning within him were giving him grief. He could have strangled her for it.

Four years on and he still felt this way. He couldn’t explain why he both loved and hated her. Why did she do it? Why hadn’t she stayed to explain? How could she have left without a word? How could she not know his feelings for her? Why? Why?!

For four years, he had asked the same question over and over again. He never got an answer, which drove him nuts. She had seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth. He couldn’t find her. He didn’t know what he would do when he did, if he did, except to crush her into his arms and whisper her name over and over again. He had become such an emotional wreck over her. Did she know? Did she care? Did she even understand?

He didn’t know why his obsession had reached such a peak. He didn’t care either. Was it still an obsession? Had it turned into love, so deeply ingrained in him that he could never erase it, never get it out of his system? Usually he scorned such emotions, seeing them as feelings for weak people, not for someone like him, someone who had no heart, who did not give a damn.

He was the epitome of individualism, of hedonism. At least, he had been until her. And because of her, he was reduced to such a state. Why couldn’t he get her out of his mind? Why must she drive him crazy? Where was she? He wanted to find her, give her a good hard shake, ask her all sorts of questions, ask her if she had ever loved him.

If her answer was no, it would slice him to shreds. He couldn’t believe she would feel nothing at all. It was impossible that she would feel nothing. But if she really felt something, why would she have left him? Why would she cause him such grief?

He became withdrawn and sullen. His world consisted of irony and bitter sarcasm. He was left a broken man. He hadn’t thought the devastation would be so complete. He missed her day and night, he had been so crushed to find her gone. The ache in his heart remained for the next four years, it was like a knife wound which would never heal, it left an invisible scar in his heart, on his life.

He didn’t know who he blamed more, himself for allowing such degradation, or her for being the ultimate cause of it. There was always a cause and effect, and if she were the cause of all his misery, wherever she was, was she satisfied with the effect? Must she be happy at his complete breakdown before she would show herself again? He had never known such agony before. Agony from missing her, loving her, aching for her, wanting to feel her in his arms again...

He was a man. It was ridiculous that a mere slip of a girl could have done this to him. But she was no mere girl, she was no ordinary woman, she haunted his dreams and every waking minute of his existence, her smile, her beautiful face, the sparkle in her eyes when she gazed at him, the gentle assault of her lips on his, the fire she ignited within him... he wanted her so much...

He was going mad. He couldn’t continue like this. He had to shape up. Outwardly he was none the worse for wear, he had seemingly mastered the art of controlling his emotions, he was a veritable expert at remaining unruffled under the most strenuous circumstances. Inside, he was in shreds, he had crumbled four years ago, he hadn’t recovered, he doubted he ever would. But he had to gather his inner strength together, he had to overcome this. He had allowed four years to pass in the blink of an eye, he wouldn’t do so again.
