"The process of painting is like dancing with a new partner.  You need to be part diplomat, part crisis manager and part faker to create a graceful duo.  I love the hesitations, the decisions, the retractions and the elusive solutions that are part of each work.  How do I create a process to help the viewer to see and feel the things about this subject that have impressed me enough to begin the artful dance?  Every single painting is a new partner, so the strategies, technique and process must be new.  That's the thrill.  If you rely on the same old steps, you lose the grace.  I don't believe an artist should have "a" style.  I think the style of the work should be whatever is necessary to tell the story best."
