Port won back to back preseason cups in 2001 and 2002. Both seasons proved to be successful, with the 2002 season for Port now over, they finished minor premiers and won their first finals game against Essendon. Unfortunately with their shock loss to Collingwood in the Qualifying Finals, Port gave themselves a difficult task to get to the Grand Final. Their season ending after losing to Brisbane at the Gabba, only 4 weeks earlier we had kicked their butts at Footy Park, but this time it was not meant to be!
