DEER HUNTING REPORTS 2005 pg 4 of 5 |
Nov. 30, 2005
I went out to Greene Co. this afternoon and sat down in the fencerow at the north-east corner of the back cut corn field. At 5:00 a little 6 pointer came out into the west end of the field and fed around a while. After about 10 minutes he walked the length of the field and came right towards me. When he was about 20 yards away he looked right at me and stared me down. After a few minutes he turned and walked back the length of the field and went into the front corn field. I then packed up my gear and made my way to the big field where I saw 2 deer feeding in the dim light. |

Piff and I went to hunt at a friend of his place near Oldtown in Greene Co. As I started to push a creek I heard Piff fire two shots. I continued along the creek and finally jumped a doe that ran out into a picked corn field. When I got to where Piff was hunting he pointed down the hill at a doe he shot. He said that it came out of the hillside to his left and he that missed with the first shot. He also told me that 6 or 8 deer busted him earlier that morning. We field-dressed the doe and only had to drag her down to the corn field about 20 yards. We then got the farmer's truck and picked her up. |
Later on that evening I sat down along a fence near a blow-down on the edge of a picked corn field. Just before 5:00 a big doe and two smaller deer passed just 15 yards in front of me. I didn’t shoot because I had only one deer tag left and I wanted to take a buck. |

I went out to Greene Co. this afternoon and as I was making my way through the honeysuckle that separates the two corn fields I noticed some movement in the corner of the back field. There were two small bucks sparring. They would push each other around and occasionally I could hear their antlers click. There was also a slightly bigger buck standing about 30 yards from them not paying them attention. That buck heard me walking in the brush and was looking my way. I then sat down and peered through the tangled mess and watched them for about 10 minutes. Eventually the third buck came my way while looking in my direction the whole time. When he got closer I could tell that it was the same young buck from a few days ago. He finally went past me and the other two youngsters followed. One of the little bucks was a pencil-thin 8-pointer while the other was a six. That was all the action that I saw for the evening. |
