Lily lay in the hospital bed, the little brown teddy bear she had had since
she was two hours old clutched in her arms.

Draco: Goody yet another James and Lily story.
Harry: I wouldn't mind so much if they could actually get a characterization
right.

Behind the white screen around her bed, she could hear her mother and doctor
King talking in hushed voices. However, Lily could hear every word of what
they said.
"It all went as planned Mrs. Evans, I can assure you." the doctor said in his
firm tone. "It is a shame that we had to do something like this at such an
early age. 16 really is too young to already have to have a heart transplant."

Ron: So your mom has super hearing?
Hermione: A heart transplant what a way to force angst into a story.
Harry: Don't forget pointless melodrama.

Lily shuddered as she remembered why she was in here. Ever since she was ten,
she had had to take four pills a day to make sue her heart worked properly.
When she had received her letter from Hogwarts School of witchcraft and
wizardry, her mother hadn't wanted her to go.

Draco: Why?

"Think of your condition! If you went to this - this - school, you wouldn't
be able to keep track of your medicine. And that's not even thinking about
your dancing!"

Hermione: So despite being 11 she had no counting ability?
Harry: Since when did my mom dance?

However, she had won in the end. Her father had set it straight with her
mother, saying that they had to let her live a little. while she could. This
had stung Lily, but it meant that she would be able to go to Hogwarts, and
that's all that mattered to her.

Ron: Since living apperently didn't.....

She had made friends quickly, despite what her sister, petunia had said.
Their names were Ellie-May Robinson and Laura Greggs. They were in Gryffindor
with her. Laura was around 5'4", with shoulder length blonde hair and
blue-grey eyes. Ellie-May was a definite 5'6", with long Black hair and amber
eyes. She had a brother in Slytherin, which didn't make her very popular, but
Lily and Ellie-May had clicked with her instantly.

Draco: Look it's the Mary Sue parade!
Hermione: Why are they telling us the exact hights?
Harry: And how popular they are?

And she had been able to carry on with her dancing. Dumbledore had had it
arranged to have a small - but spacious - dance studio built on the third
floor. Even with her condition, Lily would still dance. Nothing would ever
stop her. Her mother had been a little disappointed at first, because she
could no longer have lessons from a teacher, but it was soon revealed that
Lily was well past her age at dancing and didn't really need her lessons
anyway.

Harry: Well Dumbledore always makes exceptions like this.  Always.
Hermione: So at 16 she had learned everything there is to know about dancing.
Ron: Cripes!  Your mom is MarySue!

So anyway, during the holidays, lily's condition finally took its toll. She
had been rushed into hospital with very sharp pains in her chest, and it was
soon found out that her heart had given up. She had been hooked up to all
sorts of machines to keep her failing heart running.

Ron: They put her heart on a treadmill?

They had been waiting for a new heart for the past few years. The doctor knew
that one day, her heart would simply give in. but they hadn't expected it to
happen so soon. By an extreme amount of luck, the doctors had been able to
find her a donor. If it had been another day or so, she would have died.

Harry: This could have been told in a way that would've..
Draco: Made us care?
Ron: Made us not want to throw up?

Now, here she was, only a week after the operation. She wanted to go home.
Ellie-May and Laura were probably wondering why she hadn't owled them, and
god forbid that they leave her when she most needed them. They were the only
ones - apart from her family, Dumbledore, and by accident, Ellie-May's
brother Logan - who knew about her heart condition, and they had always
helped her through it. The voices of Dr. king and lily's mother drifted back
to her ears.

Hermione: My your mother heals fast.  Usually it takes months to recover from
a heart transplant.

"She will be able to come home in a week, but make sure that she isn't put
under any unnecessary pressure." She could just imagine her mother nodding to
this.

Draco: Why is she visualizing nodding?
Harry: Undue pressure?  Like going to school?

"Tell me; when does your daughter go back to school?" her mother fidgeted
nervously at this.

"Uh, September the first." The doctor made a small 'mm hmm.' And the sound of
a pencil on paper could be heard.

Harry: You know instead of October 31st

"Ok. She should be ok by then. She should be ok to go home by tomorrow. Keep
her off her feet for a few days, and have her take these. The instructions
are on the bottle." Lily heard the rattle of the oh-so- familiar pill bottle.
She heard her mother click the top of her purse open and drop the pill bottle
inside.

Hermione: I think it'd take more than a few pills to deal with the
afteraffects of a heart transplant.

"Yes doctor."

There was some shuffling, and Lily pretended to be asleep. She heard the
clicking of her mother's expensive Gucci shoes on the floor. They stopped by
the bed, and her mother gently shook her awake.

Ron: And the shoe brand name was important why?
Draco: What's with the pill fetish?  Your mom a junkie?
Harry: Shaddup.

Lily looked up at her mothers face.

"Hi mum." she said in a sleepy voice. Her mother beamed.

"Hello dear. I've got good news. You can come home tomorrow." Her mother
smiled, and brushed of a speck of dust on her expensive grey business suit.
Lily smiled.

Harry: Oh goody even more unessary description.
Hermione: Why do authors waste description on unimportant things like clothes
instead of using them on background and characters?

"That's great." she managed to say. Her mother beamed.

Hermione: [Mom] Yes your superhuman healing powers finally kicked in.

She spoke to her mother for a little while longer, until the ward nurse
ushered her mother out, saying something about her 'needing her rest.' Lily
smiled, thinking of Madame Pomfrey before she drifted off into a dreamless
sleep.

Harry: ZZZZZZZ.....

"Lily!" Laura called as she saw her best friend in the whole wide world enter
through the barrier. Ellie-May turned too, and grinned as she saw a pale, but
vibrant Lily walking shakily through the barrier. They had heard about her
heart transplant and had been very supportive.

Hermione: Actually they prayed for her death.
Draco: I'm praying for her death.
Harry: Hey!

"Hi guys." Lily said. Ellie-May looked over lily's shoulder to see her father
carrying her cases.

Ron: Ellie-May?
Harry: So will there be a corn shucking scene?

"Hello Mr. Evans!" she said cheerfully to lily's father. He smiled and nodded
to the girls.

"Hello ladies. I trust you will look after my Lily while she's away?" he
grinned at the two girls. They grinned back.

"Sure thing Mr. Evans. We wont let her do anything to strenuous." Laura said,
taking lily's trolley from him. Lily's tawny owl, Deeco, screeched as his
cage rocked from side to side.

Hermione: Your Mom's superhuman healing powers must be on the frizt.

"I can take it myself you know." Lily said quietly, but Laura simply smiled
at her.

"No way Lils. You've just had a big operation, there's no way that I'm
letting you push it." Lily rolled her eyes, causing Laura and Ellie-May to
giggle. Lily's father gave her a quick hug and then walked casually back out
of the barrier. Ellie-May turned to Lily and beamed.

Draco: Of course we all know how strenuous taking medication is.

"So, how was the hospital? Is it true that muggle hospitals are really
smelly?" she asked. Lily grinned. Ellie-May and Laura were pureblooded
wizards, meaning that they didn't know too much about the muggle world other
than the basics.

Hermione: Yes it's called things like Medicien and Clean

"Yeah. I had to wash my clothes three times before the smell went." Lily said
with a chuckle. As they were laughing, Lily felt a tap on her shoulder. She
turned to see Logan Greggs, Ellie-May's brother. Like Ellie- May, he had
Black hair, but unusual violet eyes. He was a year older than Lily, Ellie-May
and Laura. She could see his Slytherin buddies a little way down the
platform. It had never bothered Logan to come and talk to his sister though.
He smiled at Lily.

Ron: And the Gary-Stu's arrive

"Hi Lily. Ells told me about your operation, I hope you're ok." Lily smiled.
She had always liked Logan, but would never admit it because she knew Ellie
would never let her live it down.

Draco: Ooh do I sense a paradox?
Ron: Nope just more author ego inflation.

"I'm fine now. At least I don't have to take all of those pills anymore.."
She answered shyly. She had always been shy, but around Logan, she was worse.
Logan smiled and turned to the Slytherin crowd. He nodded to them and turned
back to Lily.

Harry: So what were the pill her Mom gave her?  Pez?

"Well, I'm glad there was no permanent damage. See you later, I gotta get
back." He nodded to his sister and Laura, then planted a small kiss on lily's
cheek, before walking back over to his friends.

The moment he left, Ellie-May started to giggle. Lily turned to her friend.
Her pale cheeks had a small flush on them.

Hermione: Occasionally a sign of fever....

"What?" she asked her friends. Ellie-May looked up at her friend.

"Isn't it obvious? He LIKES you!" Ellie-May said, literally rolling on the
floor. Lily rolled her eyes.

"Get a life ells." She said airily, but she couldn't help hoping that a part
of what Ellie-May had said was true.

Draco: Why would a girl going to an English school in the 70's use a 90's
American expression?

Suddenly, there was a loud booming voice behind Lily. It gave her a fright.
She whirled around to see Sirius Black, James Potter, Remus Lupin, and peter
Pettigrew standing there, looking at them. Sirius' face was red with fury.
His long Black hair was in his eyes.

Draco: Is it just me or is your godfather always angry about something?
Harry: You try being locked up is Azkaban for a crime you didn't commit and
see how cheerful you are!

"What are you doing associating with that Slytherin scum?!" he roared at the
mildly surprised girls. Ellie-May regained her composure first, staring at
Black with fury in her eyes.

Harry: Okay this is just plain stupid here.
Ron: Yes there is a strong rivialry between houses, but we wouldn't scream at
someone for talking to another house!

"How DARE you call my brother scum Sirius Black?! I can choose who I will and
will not talk to myself, thank you very much, and YOU, at this very moment in
time, are not in my good books!" she glared at Black. That's when Remus
stepped forward.

Hermione: If it didn't sound so bitchy I'd say good for her!

"We DO have an image to keep up though; we cant be going and talking to the
Slytherins as if they're our best friends." He said calmly, Laura glared at
him this time.

Draco: Why?  What image?

"What? And you expect her to ignore her brother? Huh?" it was James' turn to
speak now.

"If it means holding up the Gryffindor honour, then yes!" he said back. Lily
had kept quiet throughout all of this. That's when James turned to her.

Harry: Look I doubt my Dad was that obessisive about house loyalty.

"How could you let that - that - SNAKE kiss you?" he sneered at her, his
messy Black hair falling in his eyes. Lily was angry now. She liked Logan,
and wasn't about to hear him bad-mouthed. She picked up all of her courage,
and slapped James across the face. This was very un-Lily like. Ellie-May
looked at her in approved shock.

Hermione: Wow!  Go Harry's Mom!

James looked up at Lily in fury.

"You wait Evans. You wait." He said in a deathly soft tone, before turning
and walking away with Sirius, Remus and peter. Lily watched them go. This
only meant one thing. The marauders were going to play their oh-so-famous
pranks on her, Ellie-May and Laura. She turned to Laura and Ellie-May.

Hermione: Yes how dare she stand up for herself when I'm being a total jerk!

"Are you ok Lils?" asked Laura. Lily smiled and nodded.

For the next two weeks, Lily, Ellie-May and Laura were pranked non-stop. They
had been covered in warts, boils, been given green hair, blue skin, sweets
that turned you into a toad for an hour, they had been given drink that made
your voice sound like a dog barking, and the worse so far, they had kidnapped
lily's owl, which she had found later, covered in sticky honey. The poor
thing couldn't even fly.

Draco: Some of that sounds fun.
Harry: Most is just plain mean.
Ron: And OOC.

This had really upset Lily. She had spent the whole day sobbing and washing
the honey off her owl (if she had used a spell, Deeco would have lost all of
his feathers along with the honey.) Ellie-May and Laura had helped her of
coarse, but there was little they could do. Lily was very emotional because
of her operation, and so these pranks had been making her a little more upset
that she would have been usually.

Hermione: I can assure you can find a way to remove honey without removing
feathers.
Harry: How would heart surgery affect her emotions?

The marauders, of coarse, thought that they deserved it. They shouldn't hang
around with the Slytherins, after all.

Ron: The Marauders aren't that cruel.

Lily was targeted the most, seeing as she was the one who had slapped James.
She was sitting in the common room, reading a book, when the next prank
occurred, two weeks later.

"Hey Lily!" she turned to look at him, only to see a big glob of something
green fall over her head. This made her jump, and she was sure that she felt
a sharp pain in her heart. She let out a cry of pain and clutched her heart.
Ellie-May and Laura were immediately at her side.

Harry: Of course being scared always cause sever damage to the heart.

"Lils? Lils, are you ok?" Laura said frantically. Lily looked up into the
panicky faces of her friends and attempted a smile.

"Y-yeah. I'm fine." She croaked. "Just a pain. The doctor said I might feel
them for a while." Laura and Ellie-May nodded. Laura did a quick cleaning
spell on Lily, and then turned to the marauders.

Draco: They must not be very good pranksters if they were in the room with
her.

"You dimwits! You could have KILLED her!" she screamed. The marauders looked
confused. Laura turned to Lily.

Hermione: Because dropping slime on someone is the number one killer in
England.

"C'mon, lets take you upstairs. You need rest, and we told your dad we'd look
after you." Laura shot the marauders a glare that could have killed as she
helped Lily up the stairs and to her room.

Draco: Didn't they her Mom they would look after her?

"What was all that about?" Sirius asked, puzzled as to what happened just
then. He was sure that he saw Lily clutch her heart. Remus looked thoughtful.

"She's been looking pale lately, haven't you noticed?" he said quietly. The
other marauders looked at him.

"Yeah. Now that you mention it, she HAS looked a little pale." James said.

Draco: Maybe she just needs a tan?

"Oh well, she must just be a little taken back by our wonderful pranks." Said
peter smugly. The guys dismissed it as this, and went back to planning their
next prank on the Slytherins.

Harry: Apprently retardation is catching.

**IN THE GIRLS DORM**

Lils. Are you sure you're ok?" asked a worried Laura. Lily smiled and nodded.

"Yeah. Just get me my pills." Ellie-May nodded and got her pills.

"C'mon, take those and go to sleep." Said Ellie-May kindly. Lily smiled.

"Thanks ells. I'll see you in the morning." she said with a yawn, laying down
and closing her eyes. Her two friends watched her for a moment, before going
to their own beds.

Harry: Stupid
