I hold in my hand your still-beating heart, and something inside me twitches. I think I like this. But the smoke clears a bit, like a 1950s horror flick, and there you are, looking shocked with me. Your heart pounds under the stretchy tambourine-skin of your chest. My stomach sinks.

So I press myself to you. Sometimes when we’re this close, molecular laws cease to apply, and we melt into a dreamy ice-cream soup, your hair like syrup and your eyes jellybeans.

I like ice-cream and I love control and I need you. When you touch my arms the junky veins stop hurting. Is that us? Addiction, compulsion, and your heart in my hand?

~ it was being punch-drunk on the taste of your hands, it was
never learning to understand it was
your lips splitting under my fist it was
biting at me ev’ry time we kissed ~

You scar yourself and I smile. I don’t know which I love more, your blood or your kindness. Keep an eye on your heart.
