Film Review: ''Rojavanam''

1 / 4 STARS

DIRECTOR: SELVA

ACTOR: KARTHIK

ACTRESS: LAILA, MALAVIKA

MUSIC DIRECTOR: BHARADWAJ

STORYLINE:

Karthik plays an orphan who does all kinds of odd jobs at Rojavanam, a old-folks' home. He takes care of a lot of the old people there (M.S.V., Nambiar, 'Kaka' Radhakrishnan, Jaiganesh, Manorama). He falls in love with Rojavanam's owner's friend's daughter, played by Laila, and she falls in love with him, too. But, as usual, Laila has a 'morai mappillai', and it is said that if Laila doesn't marry him, then Rojavanam will be demolished.

So Karthik, for the sake of the old people, sacrifices his love.

Malavika makes an appearance as a psychology student who visits Rojavanam.

COMMENTS:

Horrible. It was mind-numbingly boring. I saw it in a theater in Coimbatore, and my cousin Sugi got so tired of it, he left the theater and went and slept in the car. The rest of us were sleeping in the theater. Selva tries to yank so many tears out of us that we respond negatively; Karthik oughta spit whatever he has in his mouth before speaking; Laila oughta learn how to act; and comedy oughta be funny. Malavika seems to come and go; her character is totally unnecessary. This one's a flop.

NOTE ON THE MUSIC:

A few songs are listenable, such as "I Have Fallen in Love."

RECOMMENDATION:

Skip Rojavanam, or you might want to go and demolish old-folks' homes for no particular reason.
