Film Review: ''Dhill''

2 / 4 STARS

DIRECTOR: DHARANI

ACTOR: VIKRAM

ACTRESS: LAILA

MUSIC DIRECTOR: VIDYASAAGAR

STORYLINE:

Kanakavel (Vikram) wants to be a police officer. He falls in love with Asha (Laila), who eventually becomes his sister's fiance's sister.

Things go well until Kanakavel gets into a fight with a police officer named Shankar (Ashish Vidyarthi). Shankar is a big bad policeman who doesn't hesitate to kill people.

For the rest of the film, Kanakavel and Asha are on the run from this big bad cop.

COMMENTS:

It's too bad there's such a weak storyline. It really is. For several reasons. The comedy is pretty good, the romance is done well, and Vikram makes such a great action hero.

Vikram, getting up, perhaps, from his horrid "Vinnukkum Manukkum" proves he can be a commercial hero. Laila is her usual non-acting glamor doll (though, to my opinion, she isn't that glamorous).

There are fights. There are sentiments. There is comedy. There is everything. A masala movie for the college audience.

NOTE ON THE MUSIC:

Pretty good music! And Vikram shows off his dancing skills. The title song "Dhill Dhill" is great though the lyrics are awkward ("Charlie Chaplin dhill"?), "Oh Nanbanae" is very dance-able. "Unn Samaiyal Araiyil," though the lyrics are stupid, is a melodious song. The other two songs are pretty poor.

RECOMMENDATION:

Watch it on video.
