Film Review: ''Star''

1 / 4 STARS

DIRECTOR: PRAVIN KAANTH

ACTORS: PRASANTH, RAGUVARAN, PRAVIN KAANTH

ACTRESS: JOTHIKA

MUSIC DIRECTOR: A.R. RAHMAN

STORYLINE:

Murthy (Prasanth) has a weird job -- for pay, he will confess to other people's crimes and go to jail for them.

In the past, Vijayakumar as a police officer was accidentally responsible for the death of the villain Dhanushkodi's (Raguvaran's) son. So Raguvaran has vowed to kill Vijayakumar's son (director Pravin Kaanth) instead.

So Vijayakumar has hid Pravin away in a foreign country.

Enter Murthy. Vijayakumar hires him to act as his son, so that Dhanushkodi will kill him instead. He's the proverbial sacrificial lamb.

Jothika acts as Preeti, Prasanth's love interest.

COMMENTS:

Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad movie. While the storyline looks like it may provide interest, the director skewers it horribly. The director himself appears as one of the characters, and shows us that not only is he a bad director, he is a bad actor as well.

This is just a movie that should not have been made. It's also in severe competition as "Worst Picture of the Year."

NOTE ON THE MUSIC:

A.R. Rahman has done the music for this film, for some inexplicable reason. He's just refurbished old songs, though. The best songs are "Thome Karuvil Irundhome" and "Rasiga."

RECOMMENDATION:

Skip it, by God. Skip it.
