Beta Perfect Dark - Weapons

Actual beta screenshots

Quick Weapons Menu

1.Lowercase words:
a: falcon 2
b: cmp150
c: z2020
d: ar34
2.MagSec 4 called z2020
3.Crossbow in dataDyne HQ

It looks like I misinterpreted the picture. The quick weapon select did not have two menus of guns. The text here says "Lees Gun" and "Lees Gun #2". Lees gun was the MagSec/Alien Gun, and Lees Gun #2 might be the LapTop Gun. The z2020 was that weird dragon farsight.

1.Lowercase words:
a:falcon 2
b.throwing knife
c:cmp150
d:datathief
e:bug
2.Weapons in level that are not normally there
3.Throwing knife and not combat knife

In the test version, the level have you a lot more weapons. The remote mine would allow the user to take a shortcut to Cassandra's office. The data thief turned into the Data Uplink, although it had several names. The Tester, well, no idea.

The programmers did not have time to type every weapon into the game for E3, so they just called it a "weapon". Goldeneye also had this terminology.

DY357-LX

Trent was shown here and he carried a Cougar Magnum. Later, it was replaced by the DY357-LX, a golden magnum.

K7 Avenger

The K7 Avenger was known as the avenger until the name change.

MagSec 4

The ZMG was also a weapon replaced later, and it was a ZMG until the name was changed.

Drug Gun

1.Lowercase words:
a:shotgun
b:sniper rifle
c:farsight XR-20
d:rocket launcher
e:combat knife
f:crossbow
g:drug gun
h:grenade
2.Drug gun is now the tranquilizer

The throwing knives were changed the combat knives later in development. Perhaps at one time they were separate and not just a secondary function (throwing knife pic). Rareware changed the drug gun's name into the tranquilizer, perhaps to avoid the connotation drug provides. Why the lowercase for some and uppercase for others? I guess they couldn't make up their mind until later. In the game, they are all uppercase.

Crossbow

The primary function here is DRUG and not SEDATE.

Dragon

You started off the level with a dragon rather than a pistol (I see why they changed this). It could lock on like the cmp. The bottom picture seems to be a secondary function of the dragon. It was like a farsight, which made it extremely powerful and too advanced for the first level.

AR34

AR34s no longer can be carried together. The reason: the AR34 is held by two hands. Rare must have realized this and removed the double feature of the AR34. Too bad.

Slayer

The bottom left person is using a slayer. The slayer was originally held over the left shoulder, but probably was switches because most people are rightys and Joanna would naturally hold it with her right hand. The watch laser is the only gun held by the left hand.

Remote Mine

Rather than the old goldeneye style mines, they are different. However, in the beta version they were the old kind. Picture from N64 magazine 30 scanned by Ice Mario.

Farsight

1.Locked on to guards with boxes
2.Plants shown in green
3.Normal aimer
1.More red.
2.Farsight aimer.

1. Normal, non-beta picture of farsight.

The farsight changed often. The first time, it had a normal aimer and showed all items, including plants, walls, and guards. When it found a target, the target had a box around it. It was refined to a redder tone and a farsight aimer. Lastly, the modern version has more green than red.

N64 Magazine 30 also showed a devastating ability of the farsight: Press C-right near a target and it would lock on to him or her! I can imagine why they took it out.

Old Rocket Launcher

Code by Wreck7 for use in temple. Some of the guns are actually the Rocket Launcher.

It's very glitchy, and there is a rocket right next to the launcher.

No functions.

The rockets don't detonate and just keep moving around until they stop. You can pick them up again!

Falcon 2 Scoped AND Silenced.

Instructions: Pick up a normal falcon 2 and then this weapon in one of the slots. It should say picked up a . Now, switch to the falcon, go the weapons menu and switch to the blank one. Exit the menu and you'll have a scoped and silenced falcon. Although it fires like an AR, it shows how the programmers may have planned for a scoped and silenced falcon.

Awesome!

It doesn't really have zoom or a silencer, but the gun would have been great.

Holding Guns

There were three ways besides the normal way that the user could manually switch his guns to. In the final version, the feature is automatic and the guns only turns sideways near a guard.

Normal

Type 1: Sideways (yes, I know, you can do it in the final version also. However, the player could activate this whenever he or she wanted in the beta version.) These guns would fire faster than normal, but more inaccurately.

Type 2: Held Up.
Type 3: Held up and Sideways. This would have been held up as a shield to block gunfire. Interesting idea, but removed.

Type 3 Again, but with magnums. Only pistols could turn.

They must have taken these out because they were useless, although interesting. They can't help you in any way except for maybe sideways.

Old Bond Weapons

The old weapons still were their old names. They probably changed them to avoid copyright infringement (although there was none), and frankly the old names are much better.

The top right gun, although difficult to see, is the old couger magnum. Not planned, just the DY357 before being updated. (Pic from Pancho Juancho)

The Goldeneye sniper rifle in PD's temple multi. Must have been not updated yet.
