S.O.L./Nothing to Lose - June '01 @ Holy Grounds Coffee                                                House
S.O.L. and Nothing to Lose are both high school bands from Prior Lake, and yes, I do hate Prior Lake, but I'll admit, they are pretty good bands.  This show was very good.  I got there around 7:45 with my friend, Molly, and sat and talked as we watched Nothing to Lose goof around, talk to friends and set up equipment. Finally they did get to the stage and play.  The 3 guys, Brett (lead singer, guitarist), his brother Dain (drummer) and John (bassist, backing vocals) played well except Brett missing a few lyrics, but it was OK, because he would apologize in advance before he played the song.  Dain (sporting a Falling Down shirt - their previous band) learned one of their songs the day before the show, but since I know nothing about drums, I didnt notice anything bad.  Of course they talked to the crowd a little, mostly filled with friends and friends of friends.  They sang "Falling Down," one of their most popular songs and gave a cheer for Kurt (who wasnt there), but helped write the song.  Also they sang a 30 second song about Chad (whom also wasn't there), the song sucked, but since it was so short it didn't really matter.  I really like this band, because of their emoish  sound, and there's always that one song that gets stuck in my head, "Can't Complain".  They are an awsome band and  very nice guys.
S.O.L. came on next, Adam (lead singer, guitarist), Kris (bassist backing vocals) and Jeff (drums) played an alright show.  Unfortionatley Adam was sick, so he couldn't play his best or sing his best., but he did manage to look nice in plaid pants.  He refused to play Anti-Flag for an audience member, but they did do a cover of D4 - track # 3 on Versus God ( I don't remember what it's called), this is one of my favorite songs, so it was nice to hear that.  They played their own songs as well.  Jeff sat half-naked at the drum set pounding away as Kris played bass nicely and every once in a while hopped in the air.  It was a nice show, but it seemed S.O.L. played a shorter set than Nothing to Lose, but either way, it was still good.  I just hope Adam gets better for next time.
