This piece first appeared in a 1989 issue of Plain Brown Wrapper, an Erie zine apparently aimed at supermarket aficionados; the zine had wraparound covers made from actual brown paper grocery bags.  DVM was a regular contributor to this zine, and so were his pals Gordon Nelson and Fred Wheaton.

I haven't seen the original version of "Peripatetic Pest."  DVM says that for the revised version, he kept the '88 art but rewrote the captions "to make them more even more howl-larious."  Note the reference to his alma mater, Edinboro University.
