Julius Caesar Composition

1st Semester Exam

Mrs. Suellentrop

Please choose one of the following topics on which to write your exam composition:

#1 Discuss the following statement: “Brutus destroys himself by trying to impose an ideal on the actual.” How is this true? How does this happen?

#2 Shakespeare’s Caesar is loved and honored by Brutus. As portrayed in the play, Caesar is unworthy of it. Discuss Caesar’s speeches and actions prior to his death that would support this statement.

#3 Some people argue that this play should be called “The Tragedy of Marcus Brutus.” Decided whether you agree or disagree with this statement and argue your view, giving lots of support from the play.

#4 Shakespeare is known for creating colorful characters through his brilliant use of language. Point out and discuss at least three incidents in which characters manipulate others by using language to deceive or flatter. In each instance, what is the outcome?
