OU 17 Oregon 14
Wow!  What a great game.  A real nail biter right down to the last 33 seconds.  Thanks to Clint Ingram for settling things once and for all!  The Sooners have several seniors graduating:  Dusty Dvoracek, Eric Bassey, Chris Bush, Donta Hickson, Clint Ingram, Kejuan Jones, Chijioke Onyenegecha, Jejuan Rankins, JD Runnels, Calvin Thibodeaux, and Travis Wilson. Thanks, guys for all of your contributions to the team over the years.  You will be missed!

Go Sooners!  2006 should be a great year!

Go Big XII  4-1 so far!

12/17/05
So, OU is going to the Holiday Bowl to play a disappointed 10-1 Oregon who were deserving of a BCS bowl bid.  OU has improved a lot this year, I think, and is a better team than their 7-4 record might suggest, especially if you realize they were better than the 8-3 Texas Tech Red Raiders field team (excluding the team in the replay booth) ;)
I think this will be a close one, and that OU could come out of this one looking really good against a top 10 team.

12/3/05
It's kind of weird watching UT in the Big XII Championship game - that's where OU belongs!  It'll have to wait for next year, though.  Still no final word on whether or OU is heading to the Holiday Bowl or the Alamo Bowl.  My guess is that if Texas wins, OU will get the bid to the Holiday Bowl and Colorado will go to San Antonio, but if Colorado wins, it would be a close call whether Texas gets a BCS bid over OSU and Oregon which will affect bids to the Cotton, Holiday, and Alamo bowls.

Interesting Factoid:  The Big XII has 8 total temas bowl-eligible this year including 5 from the North (all but K State) and 3 from the south division (Texas, Tech, and the Sooners).  If Texas wins the Championship, the south will have teams 1-2-3 and the North teams 4-5-6-7-8.

Start OU 0  OSU 0
Bedlam Series 2005.  A little bit of a scuffle before the game to highlight that this game will define the success or failure of the season as a whole for two clubs who are rebuilding.

OU 21 OSU 7
OU looked great in the 1st quarter.  Not quite gettiing it done after the first 3 quick scores.  I don't think 21 points will be enough to ride this one out, so I really hope OU gets things rolling again.

OU 42
OSU 14
Those were sure some pretty runs AD let loose there.  I think some OU offensive players are going to be seeing a lot of tape of some of those holding infractions.  Sheesh!  Glad to see a decisive wine today, though.  It'll be interesting to see where everyone winds up post-season.  OU looks to be going to the Alamo Bowl, or maybe the Holiday Bowl.  Go OU!

11/19/05
OU 21 Texas Tech 23
OUch! This one hurt.  So many good plays.  And I think some of the zebras were wearing black and red instead of black and white.  20 minutes to play 30 seconds, and I think they still got a couple of them wrong, and that either one of them would have led to the OU win.  But that is speculation, and there were oppotunities OU had and missed where the game would never have been in the hands of the replay officials like that.  It still felt good to get to go see OU live, even if it was at a "hostile" field.  I do think there were almost as many OU fans there as Tech fans.

11/12/05
OU 36 Texas A&M 30
I'm beginning to get the idea that OU is NOT a second half team this year.  Another game that turned out much closer than it should have been.  Still, a win is a win, and this is win #6, so OU will have a winning season, and will be bowl-eligible.  These are not things I expected to be content with at the beginning of the year.

11/5/05
No game this week, so I'll just reflect on the fact that OU so far has lost to 3 teams.
TCU has 1 loss.
Texas is undefeated.
UCLA was undefeated.
If OU can beat Texas Tech, and not let down against Texas A&M or OSU, they should be in the driver's seat for the Cotton Bowl, especially after Colorado lost to Iowa State today..  I would love to see that.  But since Tech's strength is their passing offense, and OU's weakness is their defensive secondary, I may be counting unhatched chickens...  But dreams are fun. :)

10/29/05
OU 31 Nebraska 24
I didn't get to watch much of this one, but got updates with each score.  It may not have been one for the ages, with a number 1 and number 2 team clashing for everything, but it sounds like a good exciting game.  I'm glad Peterson is back, and hope he stays healthy.

10/22/05
Start  OU 0 Baylor 0
May be a tough one.  I'm glad it's at home.  The tailback situation is especially bleak:
Adrian Peterson - out with ankle injury
Kejuan Jones - suspended for this game
Dante Hickson - out with broken ankle
So our tailback this week is Jakob Gutierrez.  He looks to be about 5'4" (he's listed at 5'6") .  Seems to getting the job done.

Half  OU 24
Baylor 13
WooHoo!  The offensive line really seems to be coming together, and Bomar looks more poised every series.

End Regulation  OU 24  Baylor  24
Not a great half for the Sooners.  So close so many times.  The touchdown pass to give Baylor a chance to tie should never have gone.

Final  OU 37  Baylor 30
Oh, wow.  What a finish!  Great defense in OT2 for the Sooners.  It shouldn't have been nearly that exciting.  I think Guy Morriss will be second-guessing declining the holding penalty for a long time to come, especially if the Bears can't win enough to get to a bowl game.

10/15/05
Halftime  OU 10 Kansas 3
Well, I can't be excited about how well OU has been playing today (at least OU's offense), but it's been good enough.  I'll take it.

Final  OU 19 Kansas 3
Looked like some rebuilding happened tonight.  Bomar's confidence as a passer should be much better, and his receivers seemed to go all out to help him out.  There is still a lot of improvement needed; OU's offense can't count on having nearly 40 minutes time of possession.

10/8/05
OU 12  Texas 45
All good things must come to an end, I suppose.  Now it's just a matter of seeing if OU can string together enough wins to make it to a bowl game.  I sure hope so!

10/1/05
OU 43 Kansas State 21
Finally, a game where OU really seemed to be on track.  Still undefeated in the Big XII.   Go Sooners.

9/17/05
OU 0 UCLA 0
I hope that the Rose Bowl is a friendly place for the Sooners.
OU 10 UCLA 13
OU has outplayed the Bruins all over the place.  Take out a couple of huge mistakes, and OU would ahead big time.  Unfortunately, there's no redo button - no matter how many times they replay it, the same thing happens.
So we have to count on Stoops to get the team to eliminate the booboos the old-fashioned way.
OU 24 UCLA 41
I think this is officially a rebuilding year.  They've got the pieces.  But when a center snap is not a foregone conclusion, the rest of the pieces aren't going to fall into place, either.  There were bright spots.  The defense played 3 excellent quarters, with only 3 points not coming off turnovers.  Bomar showed some poise.  Peterson played tough.  He made some bad decisions (pitching to Bomar?!?)  But his yards after first contact is still very good.  Take out a mystery holding call, that called back an interception, and this game might have gone very differently.  Maybe a bye week will allow the Sooners to do some back-to-basics drills and come together.  We're still undefeated in the BiG XII!

Struggling Sooners, surging Bruins meet at Rose Bowl
OU, #18 or #21, depending upon whom you ask, is a 7 point underdog to unranked UCLA for tomorrow's game.  I guess that means the bookies are a lot less sentimental/tradition-bound than the voters.

I really think this game is crucial for the Sooners - win here, take a week off before starting your Big XII schedule, and try to get that swagger back.  Find that Sooner Magic.  It's doable, if enough people believe.

Otherwise, I think this is going to be a very long season...

Stoops:  Peterson's Status to Be Determined Later This Week
Holy cow!!!  As a fan of the football team, I'm worried.  Peterson is the one reliable aspect of OU's offense.  OTOH, as an alumna, I'm proud of my school for saying that no one gets a free pass.  Go Stoops!  Go Sooners!

9/10/05 15:13

Final OU 31
Tulsa 15
This looked a little bit better than last week, but they were clearly a one-dimensional team today.  Take out Adrian Peterson, and the Golden Hurricane would've won this one handily.  The offensive line has got to gel, and Bomar (or Johnson) has got to get better at throwing to Sooners to give Peterson a fighting chance at getting into the secondary.

I am glad Stoops decided to go for it on 4th and 1...

9/3/05
Halftime OU 0
TCU 10
I have to say I liked what I saw in the final series from Bomar.  Wonder if he'll get the nod for the 2nd half.

Final OU 10
TCU 17
Unbelievable.  I really thought Stoops got things figured out at half time.  Apparently not.  AP Story

Reloading, not Rebuilding from the Oklahoma Daily
When OU takes the field Saturday against TCU, it will be one day shy of nine months since the Sooners played a football game.

The game, a 55-19 shellacking at the hands of USC, has long since been forgotten according to coaches and players. And while the talk is not centered around the past, several Sooners have a message to send.

8/28/05
This is a rebuilding year.  But then, so was 2000.  Lots of questions, and lots of hungry players finally geting their chance to provide answers.

GO SOONERS!
